My Life

You might think my childhood was normal and l grew up with a lot of friends well guess what it's totally the opposite. l was born in South Africa and l stay there l can hear people playing music and would just peep through the window and saw then dancing seemed fun and l wanted to join in but that's impossible cause eversince l was kid all l did was listen to my parents command get good grades and l never had time to face real kids as l was always locked up in the study room. Hey l am Mitchel Brown but call me Mumu. l grew up in a family of 3 kids and both my parents but in this family is not as normal as you think. My dad Mr Brown is the son if the big business man named Jack back in Texas and his family is always strict if you don't have any good goals you get a heavy punishment in return. You can say this rule was passed to my papa he was always strict about every little thing l did where l went and would give me the eye when l try to play with anyone of the opposite sex with me. All my friends found ne wierd as l only talked a little and would ignore them like when they ask me for a play date and stuff so l ended up being alone forever and now here l am me 10 years later a 12 year old with nothing in life but just books as her friend. l heard my brother talk and he just entered my room without a knock annoying.

Mark: heyy sleepyhead....

Me: l know now get out leave

(l threw a pillow at him and he dodged it and gave a smirk.)

Mark: better luck next time sis l will be going but she told you to hurry up she is leaving u at your school or something

Me: yah yah l know now goo

Mark: fine l will goo

He said that in a teasing voice and left ohhh man brothers. l had to get ready for today is the day l am taking my results for grade 7 this was the only way l could get into high school. l ran down took my bottle with little pink flowers on it as l was so in love with pink and went to my mom where l saw her waiting for me l heard her shout "hurry up or l might be late for work" l knew if l was late l might get a tight sleep since she gets pissed off easily. l quickly opened the door and got in. The journey was a little tiring as l had to listen to her singing old school songs l wanted to listen to other songs but no words ever came out of me u can say l was quite terrified of both my parents. We finally arrived there at school at last l would be free, l quickly went in the line amd waited for my turn to come. After a long exhausting wait l finally got my turn the lady giving the results looked at me through her round big glasses.

Lady: Mitchel Brown is it....

l just stared at her and just nodded cause no word was coming out it was a little scary to look at her.

Lady: l will need you to sign that please and that's all.

She said all that and handed me a little envelope then a paper which was written something about finishing school and stuff l just signed the papers and took my little envelope back home. l saw my little sister Mia on the couch playing games and went in my father's direction. l could feel the floor becoming colder as l walked near l gave him an afternoon greeting and handled him the envelope and he just looked at me opening it. l shut my eyes as l had his voice say.

Papa: it says you got about hmmm 8 points quite good but not what l expect from my daughter.

l had smiled since l heard l got 8 points l was like the third from the highest as the highest scored 5points but my smile dropped when l felt his cold torn of disappointment l just wanted to fall fro there.

Papa: if u would have maybe gotten 5 points as usual you could choose any school in the country but u chose to get this.

l wanted to cry all l was saying in my heart is l wished he knew how much l try everyday to live under his foot and impress him. He continued as he told me about if l knew he was always the toppest student since primary and continued telling me about how grandpa would make him dig a hole and put the soil back after digging it as a sign of a punishment. l hear these stories all the time and do my best to keep up with his words. Night came and l was locking myself in my room l heard the house maid Leah knocking at the door.

Leah: babyy are u still crying come on you already knew u passed

l loved her she was the only friend l had eversince l was a baby of all the maids in the house l found her fun and caring

Leah: come on its time for dinner now your mom wants you to dine as a family

l had to be strong as l kept my feelings locked away as always and l can do the same even now. l had to wash my face before l go there cause if they get to know l cried they will give me a guidance lesson for the whole night. l went to the dining and both my siblings were annoying each other as always l sat on my usual place beside mom and waited for her to say "let the Lord bless our food". We finally ate our dinner and before l could go back to my room my mom and dad made me sit and my siblings got to do what they wanted as always they were never told what to do and what not to do. l sat in my sit and felt goosebumps as l thought they might be angry with me for my results it was also my first time being in 3rd place as l was always the highest. I heard my mom say what shocked me....

Mom: you did great in your exam honey u can say whatever u want me to get for you cause u deserve it

This was the part l always loved the most getting presents after doing great in school that's what also always made me try best. l told her " the new novels that are just being sold and new clothes" l said smiling

Mom: simple as always l will do tt for u honey

Papa: well l have applied you for a girls high school

I just wanted to not believe it but l realised it was true l was to go to a girls high school l never wished for tt l always wanted a mixed school with both girls and boys l thought l would start normal life in high school but lm still in this mess

Papa: you will be going to MKHS Catholic school in the next town near your pops old house since pops is here in South for the moment your grandpa helped with the applications and you have to go there it's a good school

Mom: it's much easier honey at least you would be near pops house

l know l loved grandpa and being near his house is fun but going to a girls high was not in my mind. l thought my parents would give me a chance to be at a normal school but l guess it's impossible. l couldn't do or say anything l kept on agreeing with them in everything. The next 2 weeks l had to spend them preparing for school getting new uniforms and food all those stuff. It was here the day l was going to the next town to my school l never liked the next town cause of the people who stay there. I arrived at the school gate l couldnt believe my eyes this school was in a place like a forest l told my mom that if they only had let me go to the other school that accepted my application it would have been much nicer but she couldn't listen ofcourse it was no surprise to that since all my cousins also studied in the same school and got good marks so all she ever believed was l will do the same. The car was moving towards the office l decided to open the window and take a look outside but the moment l opened the window my eyes were burning from the sting that came from the nearby toilets l saw some students go in there amd couldn't believe it so this was the school toilets l felt like l was being tied up high in the tree. l really cried when this happened l tried ringing convince my parents to change me school but couldn't listen to a word l said. I went outside and didn't want to go inside the hostel but then l saw my cousin.

Harley: Mumuuu (she waved her hand toward me as she ran and jumped into my arms) ohhh l had missed u so we are in the same school

Me: u are also in this school why though you did well in your exams why are u here

Harley: u ask too much as always ( in a teasing tone) ofcourse l wanted to take care of my younger cousin too (she winked at me )

Me: not fair....

Harley: ohhhh come on don't be childish u are a high schooler now so better be one

Me: as if...

I was glad to meet my cousin there as our parents were carrying our things in the hostel they prepared everything and finally after talking with my uncles and little cousins we parted ways my mom dad and uncles and aunt had returned home and were leaving us with strangers. l wanted to hold it in but then l broke down l cried so much that l made my cousin cry too

Me: but why are u crying 😢

Harley: cause you are crying ....

Me: crazy.....

I laughed at her and she smiled and said "you finally laughed" l was happy to have her by my side it will be like old times l guess school will not be that bad with her by my side.......
