May our love live on in the past

That was yesterday and today her husband's gone on a business trip, although she doubted it alteast she was alone, being alone was better than being with him but being alone made her feel lonely and she didn't like being feeling lonely and so she drowned that loneliness with a bottle of whiskey in an old bar.

She sighed, nursing the drink in her hand.

" You okay? " the bartender asked, sending a warm smile her way.

" Would you care if I wasn't? " she asked earnestly. The bartender was taken aback, opening and closing her mouth, searching for the words to come out. " You probably wouldn't and that's okay " she began, looking back down, studying the murky liquid in her hand. " I wish I didn't "

" That's quite the depressing thought " a voice said behind her, a voice she knew all too well. She sighed, this was suppose to be her time of peace.

" I'm starting to think your stalking me " she mumbled, laying her head on the bar table.

" Maybe I am, would that upset you? " she arched an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips. "... Or does it turn you on. You always did like that psycho shit " she chuckled.

" What do you want, Leah? " Asante asked, not in the mood for her boisterous personality.

" A drink, which is why I'm in a pub, and so are you " she sat beside her.

" What's your poison? " the bartender asked.

" Whatever this fine lady's having " she smiled. While the bartender fixed her drink, she turned towards Asante.

" Your different than what I remember " she commented.

" Depends on what you remember "she replied bitterly.

" The good times " Asante cut her off with a scoff, for her, the good times were spent drugged up, too high to destinguish her zealous infatuation for her and love. " What? Did we not have good times "

She remained silent, she didn't need to speak, Leah knew what their relationship was at the time, trauma bonding and that was all it was and all it could be, never could they have been friends nor a loving couple. They were two junkies, who shared a rough childhood which dealt them a bad hand as adults which lead to the misunderstanding that what they had in common was friendship to later develop into a toxic relationship and after rehab she had vowed never again but Leah was a master manipulator and somehow she convinced her to go back to her old life but not now, she had a family.

" We had good times, key word had, as in past tense and that's where it shall remain "

" Because your happy with your new life " she asked, arching an eyebrow with clear amusement in her face, she remained silent, her mouth closed, lips pursed and mind empty, it was a simple question, one she could easily answer but the sentences weren't forming and her mouth refusing to move. And with that she found herself asking the question, one she had been asking herself more than once but refusing to answer, was she happy? The answer was no, she wasn't but when has her happiness ever been a priority, she can't desire something she had never felt, it's always been about duty, responsibility and her mother. Kyle wasn't someone she she liked let alone loved but mother dearest approved of him and her approval was all that matters.

" There's no reason to answer, I already know the truth " Asante just started at the glass in her hand, refusing to look at her and instead focusing on the murky liquid, hoping it would distract her to a point where all sounds and people no longer exist. There was shuffling to her side and then a warm breeze tickled her neck, her breath making its way to her nose, it smelled of cheetos and alcohol.

" When you get tired of him, you know what to find me, I can make you happy " she whispered before departing, Asante took in a deep breath, glancing at the glass before taking a big swig of her glass, passing for her drink, she left, back to her home, to her cold bed beside her abusive husband.
