Chapter 2 - Athlete

August 26, 2034

I will be writing this to keep track if I am still sane and if someone is reading this, it means that I am not alone and you have also survived. I played baseball long ago back from when I was a high school student. It really didn't click with me at first but I am now professionally playing in the league. Today is Saturday and today was supposedly my day off from practice. I have been shutting myself inside of my apartment since yesterday afternoon. My girlfriend Jenna went out yesterday evening together with her friends and haven't been back since then. The whole night was silent as I kept watching tv waiting for Jenna to return then eventually fell asleep in the sofa.

I woke up earlier today to the sound of someone banging my apartment door, I decided to check it out to see whoever was trying to destroy my door. I picked up my bat and carefully tiptoed over, as I grew closer the sound was slowly getting faint. I reached the door and slowly opened it, to notice the blood red sky over a figure of a tattered woman with her head down. I asked who she was and what she wants, she didn't answer and it didn't take me long enough to notice that woman was Jenna who was covered in blood, wearing tattered clothes, and having cuts and bruises on her arm. I was shocked and worried to see her in an unkempt state. As I was about to ask her to come inside, she started mumbling words I could hardly perceive.

I immediately let go of the bat in my hand making it fall hard on the floor. I quickly pulled her in the apartment to nurse injuries. Trembling while tears starting to bubble in my eyes, I sat her down and instantly went and took the first aid kit. When I got back to treat her injuries she was creepily looking at my direction. Ignoring it, I went close to her and she suddenly pounced on me and started attacking me making me fall flat on my back.

We both were on the floor but Jenna kept on attacking trying to bite me. As she keeps opening her mouth I noticed that her teeth are about to fall out and there are blood and flesh stuck between them. I struggled to get a grip of her as I hustled to get up and call for help. Finally I managed to escape her grasp and rise from the floor, I immediately went for the door to get out. But before managing to get out, I grabbed a hold of my bat and turned around if maybe she came to her senses. And that was a big mistake, she opened her mouth wide and made an ear-piercing scream while running towards me at the door. I promptly then shut the door hard before she could lunge at me.

The outside was a mess, the city was running amok and sparks of fire was everywhere. The screaming inside my apartment have subsided, I decided to once again check inside if it was okay to go back. There was something blocking the door as it wouldn't budge as I ram my body into it. There was a slight gap through the door and as I peeked into it, a puddle of blood began to drip down to the floor. I was about to slam myself to the door when I heard chattering from the room next to mine. As I was about to knock on his door to warn him about the dangers here outside, I heard a loud screech. I knew he was in danger so bashed down his door to check on him, to see he was unconscious on the floor.
