Chapter 1

13 October 2025

7.00 a.m., JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, WASHINGTON

“Salute!” The word keep ringing in the air as Wendria, an elite special forces soldier, march past by the base which is crowded by Green Berets. Wendria march past with a smug since she is one of the twelfth highest positions in the troops. Who knows how may missions has she complete without a single fail. But she knows the troops don’t really believe her capability.

“What with the smug face? Do you know what time is it?” Dabbie, an officer scold Wendria right after she arrived. “What? I’m right on time, aren’t I? Like always?” Wendria asked in confusion.

“You didn’t get my message this morning? I told you that we got new mission!” Dabbie boomed.

Wendria eyes bug out, “What? A new missions? But I just got back. And also, I didn’t get your message since I can’t find my phone anywhere. Right after I got back last night, I throw it somewhere before I went straight to bed. And now, you’re telling me, that I got new missions?”

“Yup, that exactly what I meant. Now, get lost. The general is waiting for you,” Dabbie pushed Wendria away.

“You chased me away? Oh please, help me this one time. Tell the general that I want to take a rest. Plus, I don’t wanna see him,” Wendria begged.

“U-uh, no can do. If you want to take a break, you tell him yourself. Don’t look at me like that, I know I’m an officer but all things related to you will be handle by him. Furthermore, can’t you be more tolerate? He’s your father.” Dabbie replied.

Wendria rolled her eyes. “Uff, fine. But don’t regret it later when you could only found my corpse when I died from overworked.”

“No one asked you to be an army in the first place,” her friend’s mumbled. “And I didn’t asked to be a daughter of a general in an army troops who forces me to take this occupation,” she protested. Everyone seems to be having this weird misunderstanding where they think she really like being an army, to build up all the muscles and have fun while undergoing all those inhuman training camps. As if they think that being an army is her dream job while the truth is she despise being a government worker so much. Being a government slave for nothing in return. Said that all those war on the mission was to bring peace to our earth, but the truthed is nothing really changed. She’s tired of the people petty look at her, that she gain all the position without any hardship just because her father is the general.

“Ray, the general is asking about you, he ask me to call you if you arrived” a women dressed in the same outfit as Dabbie, call out for Wendria, using her nickname.

“Wilson! Long time no see. Ah, where should I report in?”

“Excuse me, I’m the Wilson here,” Dabbie interrupt. “She’s more or less a Wilson too, don’t be so stingy about a surname.” Sassed Wendria back and then raised her eyebrow higher.

“As always, the headquarters, next to your office.”

“Ok, thanks. Eh, report accepted, officer Rose. Salute!” Wendria said while doing the salute sign to Valeria Rose before rush to the headquarters.

When Wendria arrive at the headquarters, everyone is looking at her and make the sign ‘salute’. Wendria saluted back and stand on the line where she should have been.

“Reporting, Intelligence Sergeant, Sergeant Maxius.” She reported in.

“Lieutenant Yoo, please explain it once again,” instructed the general. Lieutenant Yoo just stare at Wendria face before start explaining it all once again.

“We got a call from the higher up to investigate about Timor-Leste, or East Timor, by saying that the whole country didn’t respond to the higher up. We’ve called their HQ, but still no respond.”

“Urmmm, when did you guys get the missions?” Wendria asked. Lieutenant Yoo glare at her indifferently. “Yesterday,” he replied.

“So it seem that you guys knew that my mission ended yesterday and decided to call me today. Ah, one more. Can someone explain to me, in small words, why I’m assigned to this mission?” Wendria asked annoyingly, as the signed that she protest to be on duty right now.

“Ahem, the situations seem quite serious, so we decided to assigned all twelve member of Delta Force unit.” Explained the general. When he start open his mouth, Wendria know that she don’t want to talk back anymore. He used his veto on her.

“The copper will be departing at 3, so you guys better get all of your equipment ready. We don’t know what is happening, so you must expect every possible situations.

“Yes, sir!” reply all of the Delta Force member with enthusiasm, except Wendria. But since the chopper will depart at 3, Wendria will be sleeping all the time left since she’s tired. Then, she remembered one thing, her phone.

“Sir, may I asked or a leave for a while? I got something personal to do but I promise that I’ll come back before 3.” Asked Wendria with a helpless voice.

“You may.” After got the permission by the general, Wendria excused herself and went straight to her house. Her own house. Even though Wendria and the general relation is actually father and daughter, they never really had a conversation as one. Wendria felt all awkward around him since she rarely seen him before, as a child, as the general is on duty all of the time.

Right after she arrived, she look through all the corner of the house to find her phone. When they got missions, they’re prohibited to bring their own gadget but Wendria bring it all the time during missions. The mission might be boring sometimes and Wendria hated being bored.

“Found you! What are you doing under the sofa?” ask Wendria to the ‘phone’ when she found it under the sofa. She wanted to sleep right away but she planning on sleeping at the base so she doesn’t have to worry about being late and all.

She start packing her things, start with all her power bank, which she often carry around since she afraid that the place has electric crisis. Then, with her light clothes like crop tops, leggings, shorts and t-shirts. Incase she would need to run since army clothes are pretty heavy.

A torch, rope, light stick, army bomb as an energizer, first aids even when she didn’t need to because the medical teams is also going, but just in case, some cookies as snacks, her charger, a top up ticket, don’t need to buy a new one since her simcard is available everywhere and a bottle of mineral water. ‘Hmm, what else?’ she wondered. She doesn’t really have to bring many things since the whole teams is going and each one of the have to bring the weapons, the medical, the props and they have operation sergeant who should be in charge in making the mission sail smooth and a commander who give order, even though Wendria herself pretty sure she wouldn’t be listening to him. The mission is quite serious so Wendria is pretty sure that everyone will be in a tense mood, which she despises a lot. She rather work alone and have fun by herself.

Then, Wendria open her drawer and saw her own handgun, Beretta 81; which she get on her 23th birthday from her ‘father’. She didn’t really used it that much since then. She now preferred a Glock, which have more powerful shot than a Beretta. Yes, she liked it before, when she’s still a Green Berets, since they’re only allowed to used the Beretta. But, the whole unit of Delta Force much preferred a 9mm Glock, 17s, 19s, and 34s, since it’s the most powerful handgun next to the rifle. She placed it at the pistol holder at her back, for backup. She also shoved a 9mm magazine full of bullet in her bag.

‘Done. Time to go.’ She intended.

She get into her Mercedes Benz and went right back to the base, before stop at the Starbucks café for her and her friend’s Frappuccino for tribute.

“Babe!”

“Looking at the Frappuccino, you got something to ask?” Ask Valeria and smirk at her. Wendria had always brought their favorites when she got some wishes.

Wendria smile meaningfully and say, “You know me well. I’m gonna sleep in my office, so please wake me up at 2:15. This is the tribute, thanks!” she winked and carry her bag in her hands to her office.

If possible, she wanted to sleep until 3 sharp, but they need to gather and greet the higher up and say those boring oath and the same promises. Huff, such a pain in the ***. Plus, it has been a year since she got promoted into Delta Force but she know only about 3 people in there, didn’t counted the commander. She never really seen him, and come think of it, she never talk to him or even saluted. And, guess what? She barely remembered his face.

“We will depart now, all agents are required to get into the copper and wear all safety belt. Be sure to take all of the belonging.” The instruction ring through the air. Wendria checked again her bag and feel like everything is fine. She will be in the same vehicle as the commander, two communication sergeants, a medical sergeant and an engineering sergeant. The remaining members used the other copper since it’s not fit or all those people. As they were ‘flying’, Wendria felt bored of the icy and serious mood and she decided to break the silent.

“Hi, for some who doesn’t know me, I’m the intelligence sergeant, Wendria, you can call me Ray.” All of the member look at her. The communication sergeant, David Wilson, brother of Dabbie and a fiancé of Valeria, smirk in disbelieve and talk back to her. “Someone must’ve been crazy for not knowing you, the infamous crazy troublemaker, who almost blew up all her missions.”

“Rose! That’s rude. I ALMOST blew up my mission, but it never fail, ‘kay? Incase, I already know you, no need to speak up. So, you’re our commander. What’s your name again? B¡tch... something, right?” Wendria shot back and place her interest at the commander whose name she forget. David glared at her for talking like that to their commander.

“It’s COMMANDER Hugo Bitchin, for you Ray. I’m sorry, commander. This kid is just stupid. She forget everyone names, even mine. Please don’t take offence.” David pleaded for Wendria, his childhood ‘friend’ who wouldn’t use his name to call him.

“Excuse me, I ask him for his name? Why would you answer that? And even apologized?” Wendria asked in confuse.

“Imma, niga respecti ga ara?(hey, do you know what respect is?)” ask David to Wendria in Korean.

“Respecti mwonde? (what is respect?)” reply Wendria. She continue, “Wae daduel respecteul malhaeunji?(why is everyone saying it?)” she rolled her eyes and look at the medical sergeant who keep looking at her.

“Silver, this is the first time I’ve seen you, you’re new?” ask her. “Urmm, who are you talking to?” ask him back. “umm, you?”

“I’m Cooper, not Silver,” reply him with an awkward smile.

“But Silver value more than Cooper, don’t you think?” she lock her eyes at the other communication sergeant. “Don’t you think so too, Ranger?”

“And who’s Ranger?” ask David unwillingly.

Wendria furrowed her brows. “Ford? Obviously?” David snapped. “Seriously? Just because of Ford Ranger? Really, Ray? And it’s not that obvious, you’re weird, you gave everyone a weird nickname instead of their real name.”

“Shut it, Rose. It’s not that weird, you just don’t understand art.”

Alvin Johnson, the engineering sergeant start to open his mouth while the commander still giving Wendria a sharp glare. “I began to wonder whether you’re really the ‘intelligence’ sergeant. Wendria eye bug out at the comment. “Dwyane, that’s rude! What make you say that?”

“See! You called me Dwyane as the name of the rock just because of the last name Johnson instead of Alvin. Your head is fu

“Duhh..”

“Stop talking trash guys, we have work to do right now,” there. The commander has finally speak up. Alvin and David who just want to talk back to Wendria shut their mouth.

“Okay. B¡tch” reply Wendria while smiling. She took out her phone leisurely and open her drawing app called Ibis Paint. She know that no one will reply her back if she talk, literally, since the ‘commander’ has spoken up.

Everyone eyes in the chopper gone wider as they saw she took out her phone. Even the commander.

“What are you doing? Don’t you know that we are prohibited to bring our own gadget?” ask the commander sternly with a little bit emotion in his voice.

“Of course, I know that. I’m the intelligence sergeant, remember? But, I don’t really listen to order. Get the mission, complete it. You, the commander, I said this because I just wanna warn you. Don’t order me around. Others, maybe. I really hated it. Thanks,” reply Wendria annoyingly. This is why she preferred to work alone. There’s no one to order her around. She always be given mission alone since the higher up knows her capability. All the sergeants trainings, such as medical, weapon, communications and such, she has done it all without any flaws. She was supposed to be the commander but she rejected it. Too much responsibility. To keep the group in sync and such. She preferred as the intelligence sergeant since they often go on a mission alone. She is considered as genius. She went through all the inhuman training for three years, and right after her training, she got promoted. But some unsatisfied bastards who has been in army for a long time and still didn’t get promoted would say that she use her ‘father’ cable. Well, fu

She continued her drawing on her phone. She was an art and architecture student when she was in the university. She graduated in three years with a 4 flat result. Damn, she should’ve stayed in the course. Didn’t know that being an army is hard though. Well, except a BTS army, hehe. Now, she can’t turn her back on the government anymore. She keep drawing and drawing until they arrive at Tokyo City, to take a rest from the flight and refill the chopper gases. Now, her pleasure of life start, hehe.
