Despair and Loss

Hours had passed since the attack on Oberos. My mother and I stay seated on the moist and creaky boards of the boat, covered in an old and tattered blanket to shield ourselves from the cold of the morning mist. With the rocky waves of the Crystal Depths, my father tried to keep the boat steady and away from certain dangers this ocean has to offer. Our travel was slow, but safe and steady, this was because of the heavy mist that blankets the ocean around us.

The sounds of creaking wood, fluttering sails, and tall waves echo through the ocean, creating an eerie and uncomfortable atmosphere that made me scared, even more so than before. My body shivered from fright as I snuggled close to my mother, covering myself with the blanket in the hopes of keeping myself safe. My mother wrapped an arm around me as she took me in for a loving embrace. Her hand was shaking slightly. I could tell that she was scared too, but she wanted to stay strong for me. Her other hand, gently combing my hair as she looked at me with a warm smile.

"It's okay...You are safe, as long as me and your big strong dad are here protecting you." She said in a soft and soothing voice as she slightly tapped on my nose. What she said and did slightly took the fear away, but not enough to make me feel comfortable. I looked up at her as I brought my clenched fists to my chest.

"I wanna be as strong as father! I don't want to be scared! I wanna be brave!" I yelled as I looked at my mother with a confident face, one that was trying to hide fear beneath such expression. My father chuckled as he tied a long piece of rope to the side of the boat.

"I'm sure you will Mileena, after all-" He paused as he walked over to me and my mother. He then picked me up and sat me on his arm. "You are a Dracoheart!" My father added as he flexed his free arm. We, my parents and I, then broke out in slight laughter as the mist started to clear up. We broke through the wall of mist, only to see a sky of dark clouds with a slight aura of the similiar red glow that enveloped Oberos. Loud sounds of thunder and rain echo through the oceans as we slowly approached the incoming storm. My father looked at the sight and gently put me down, close to my mother as he started to control the boat once more. The waves seemed to be more chaotic as the winds started to flow by much quicker.

My father tried to sail us around the storm to hopefully reduce the chances of danger, but the winds were too strong to resist, and the currents were too quick to try and maneuver out. My mother held me close to keep me safe as my father tried to fight against the storm. We all watched as the storm slowly enveloped our small vessel. Rain started pouring down as the loud roars of thunder shortly followed the bright flash of lightning. The waves were visibly rougher as they grew in size and ferocity, some waves almost enough to swallow our ship whole. My father tried to navigate the storm as I cower within the embrace of my mother while cupping my ears to stop the loud sounds from scaring me. I started to tear up from fright as my mother held me close. She wiped my tears away while whispering words of encouragement. As her thumb wiped the tear that ran across my cheek, I held her hand as I looked at her. My hand could feel hers tremble from fright and worry.

"Don't worry... I'm here..." I spoke to my mother, making her trembling slowly fade away. I hated seeing my parents frown, I wanted to be strong for them...

My mother looked at me as she cracked a smile, the same smile that usually meant she was happy. I grew the same smile, but that moment quickly passed as yet another loud roar of thunder echo through the sky as rain and waves shower our ship, drenching us in both liquids. The waves became larger and more ferocious as the storm went on. My mother and I can only keep our faith in my father as he slowly navigated us through the storm. His hands bled from battling the ropes that were pulled from the strong gusts of wind that pass by. I watched as we slowly made our way through the storm. Soon enough, we made our way through a rocky, but calmer spot on the ocean from within the storm. My father breathed heavily as he looked at my mother and I. He grew a big smile despite the blood dripping from his palms and blending with the liquids that drenched our boat. However, we weren't safe yet...

My happy expression quickly turned to a frightful one as I looked up from behind my father. He turned to the direction I looked at, only to see a large rogue wave that was about to swallow our boat. My father tried to reach for us, but the wave was too quick. My mother held me close as the rogue wave soon capsized our small boat, breaking it into many pieces. The impact from the waves was enough to send me and my parents out and into the rough waters of the storm. As I spun uncontrollably underwater from the passing of large waves, my vision slowly started to fade.

I shook my head to keep myself focused as I tried to keep myself steady despite the violent currents that smashed against my small body. I swam up as I slowly lost my breath. I broke the surface as I gasped for air, only to be met by a wave that encapsulated me with water once more. As the wave passed, I gasped for air once more as I looked around me.

"Mom!? Dad!?" I yelled out as I looked around in panic. I couldn't see them through the rain and rough waves. A couple pieces of wood was near me so I quickly swam towards it for support. I grabbed the nearest one, wrapping my arm around it to support myself on it. I started to cry as I looked around once more for my parents. I yelled out once...twice...even three times....No response...Only the roaring sound of thunder and rain. As I kept looking around, a large wave struck me, making me slowly lose my consciousness as I kept hold on to the piece of wood. As I broke the surface, my body was beaten up and it couldn't hold out for much longer. I tried to yell out for my parents once more but my body refused. I held on to the piece of wood I was on as I lay on it. My vision slowly faded as I heard faint voices calling out my name, I tried to yell back, but my consciousness had slowly sunk into the darkness.
