The beginning.

It was that day, that day that Audrey has been dreaming of for her whole life. She was dreaming of this day ever since she was in Kindergarden, when her teacher asked every student what's their dream job.

Her answer? Astronaut. She wanted to feel what zero gravity feels like, she wanted to see stars and planets that nobody ever saw before.

She wanted to be one of the first woman to ever be in space.

You can’t become an astronaut, that’s a boy’s job! Her teacher said. Everyone started laughing and making fun of her. She went home that day crying to her mom.

Waterfalls of tears streamed down her face, snot and boogers coming from her nose. Is being an astronaut really a boy’s job.

She asked her mother. "No, of course not, nothing is ever a boy’s job, and nothing is ever a girl’s job. Everyone can do anything, as long as you put your mind to it, and never give up."

"You will be an astronaut one day dear, I believe in you."

Those four words fueled her. It made her feel like she could do anything. So, she never gave up, no matter what anybody said. She went to college and got a master’s degree.

She eventually had an interview with NASA, hoping that she got the job. She waited and pondered in front of her computer, waiting, for that email that had her results.

"Is this really a boy’s job, am I not gonna get it because I’m a girl," she thought. That’s when her insecurities sank in. Then, a notification popped up, a new email. Her emotions were heightened, a roller coaster of feelings that she never felt before. She opened her email app. It was just a notification. Then a new one popped up. It read. Interview results. She took a few deep breaths before opening it. It was the moment of truth. A blinding white flashed as she opened it. What she saw, she couldn’t believe. She was accepted. After so many years of her life. She was accepted. She felt a rush of happiness through her chest.

"I GOT IN, I ACTUALLY GOT IN!" she said over and over. She couldn’t believe her eyes. She refreshed the email just to make sure. It was still there. She was so happy, she jumped up of her chair and rushed over to her phone.

She video called her mom showing her that email. "I’m so proud of you dear, I knew you could do it!", Audrey's mom said while beaming with happiness.

"Thank you mom, thank you so much!", She and her mom talked for a bit about life before she hung up. She got herself new clothes and took a bus to the NASA headquarters. And now she was finally gonna meet her new crewmates.
