A Voice

As Stel stood atop the bridge, she thought about her life,

how things could've gone differently.

She thought about how she could've prevented the situation she found herself in,

or how she could've made better decisions,

and in her final moments she thought,

"I would never go back to that hellish place even if I could've changed anything."

As she got near the edge of the bridged she heard a voice echo through her head

"Being a human is quite tiring isn't it."

She thought nothing of it as she suspected it was just another one of the voices in her head and responded.

"Yeah, I hope I'm a cat in my next life or something."

And with that, she jumped.

..However

When she looked up, she saw someone, grabbing onto her hand, screaming.

"You're going to be ok!"

She couldn't help tearing up,

However..

It was too late. As the contract was already made.

A strange force pushed her down making her last thoughts,

"Ah... Shit."

And with that, she fell unconscious

"Mew!" I look around analyzing my surroundings, filled with tall grass..

Since when was grass so tall? It was several inches taller than me.

After a while I shivered.

I felt a tiny gust of wind from my back.

I turn around and I see a huge.. Black..

Cat?!

The huge cat's head got closer, I didn't feel scared however, I felt warm.. Warm.. Like I was with my mother again.

She licked me, I felt at home.

That's when it hit me,

"Am I... A cat?"

indescribable feelings welled up in me.

Shocked, fearful, happy, sad, I didn't know how to feel.

But one thing I did know, is that my life before was no more.

"Does this have to do with that voice?" I thought.

I speculated that it was merely one of the many voices that pushed me to make the decision to jump.

After a while, I heard voices, not inside my head but, far away, nearing.

I instinctually felt danger,

I wanted to get away from there as soon as possible.

I looked at what I assumed was my mother,

and she bit me by the scruff and picked me up.

As the voices got closer, one of them said "Oh! Kitty!"

I thought to say watch out but the only sound that came out of my mouth was "Mew!"

I felt embarrassed.

Although it sounds like she knew what I said because she started running away immediately.

But, it sounded as though they were chasing us, out of breath a male voice that sounded like a young boy's said "I'm not letting you get away my free A!"

Free.. A? Like in my previous life? Is my mother an assignment?

..I felt angry

Do they think of her as a mere grade?

I muttered a silent "..mew".

My mom and I started levitating.

I engineered all sorts of thoughts in my head.

"This isn't Earth." , "Did I cause this?" , "Is this magic?"

Then I turned around and saw a green haired teenager with squinting eyes and what looked like a uniform holding up a glowing stick.

"I'm not letting you get away again." He stated.

..What?

So he caused this?

I got ahead of myself. Did I really think I had magic? Me? Someone so weak they caused their own demise? Yeah right.. I could... Never.. Don't make me laugh..

My chest felt tight, my eyes watery.

The boy noticed me.

"Did she.. Give birth? And only to one at that?"

I looked up, my mother looked disgusted, it reminded me of my dad when he found out I skipped school, she looked at the boy like he was a roach that won't die.

I shivered.

She looked down to me, she looked almost worried.

Then we moved. Fast.

"Alright let's go." Said the boy, "Back to where I want you to be"

..

... How controlling, I thought. He reminded me of my old "friends", which filled me with even more rage, at this point I was fuming.

As we were floating over the field of grass,

I began to wonder.

What did they mean by free 'A'? Since I've worked out the fact we're in a different world, as crazy as that sounds,

It may not be as simple as a grade.

Though, I can't figure out any other meanings.

..Whatever, that doesn't matter right now,

they only thing that matters is the guy that sounds annoying no matter what he says.

Finally, we reached a small cabin, it smelled… Dirty. It looked abandoned.

He released his levitating magic and dropped us into a box shaped hole deep in the ground.

I was scared.

Scared of what he would do to us.

'What if he's going to use us for experiments?'

"What if he kills us?'

These thoughts appeared in my head.

But I could do nothing.

I was just born, helpless.

All I can do is cry for help, and I don't anyone would hear me way out here.

Then he noticed me.

"Oh right, that thing was there too." He said

… Thing? Am I an object?

He levitated me out of the metal crate, but left my mom there.

I felt uncomfortable, I didn't want to be separated from her,

I felt like crying, but instead I was just there, phased.

He put me on the cold floor next to what looked like expired food.

"Go on, eat."

…What an idiot. Don't you know baby kittens need their mother's milk not food? I can't even move, how does he expect me to get up and eat.

"Are you not hungry? Hm?" He said arrogantly.

I heard a rumbling noise, not from him, but from afar, I felt the ground shaking.

It turned dark.
