Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP), now more commonly referred to as Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another (FDIA) or Medical Child Abuse, is a rare form of child abuse and a mental health condition. It occurs when a caregiver (usually a mother) fabricates, exaggerates, or induces physical or psychological symptoms in a child or another vulnerable person under their care to gain attention, sympathy, or validation.
