Chapter 4: Dmitry Petrov

At thirty years old, I've never had a dream or anything that filled me with excitement — until now. I've always had everything and worked hard to triple my fortune, and now there's only one thing missing: an heir, boy or girl — it truly doesn't matter. My parents always taught me that sons and daughters are equal. My father always treated my mother like a queen. He used to say that's what women are — queens, especially your wife and the mother of your children. When I was a boy, I had an accident that left me unable to walk, but I have feeling in my legs and can move them a little. My parents were told a surgery could be performed, but the risk of dying was fifty-fifty. They decided not to operate — they didn't want to risk my life. Although it was hard at first, I got over it. I kept studying and working and became colder and more demanding.

When I decided to get married, I happened to see a very beautiful girl walking through the park. She is truly stunning — like seeing an angel. But since I've never been romantic, and girls who saw me in a wheelchair would keep their distance — none of them wanted to deal with a paralyzed man, which filled me with resentment toward them — that girl in the park left me mesmerized. That day she was watching the children play with longing in her eyes. That's when I knew she would be the mother of my children. I want many. I have four younger siblings, and they're a handful — now they travel the world, but I know that with one phone call they'd all come to support me in whatever I asked. We're very close, as are our parents and grandparents.

Seeing her enchanted me. I knew I couldn't approach her myself, so I sent someone to investigate her, and what I discovered filled me with rage. Her father was planning a second marriage for her — to a disgusting old man. I paid millions to take that man's place, and so I did. I didn't know why she accepted the arrangement until I had her in front of me: she was mute. But that still didn't give anyone the right to hurt her. When I kissed her for the first time, I knew she wouldn't just be my queen — she would also be my undoing. I decided I would find the best specialists for her. The moment I heard her moan, I knew she could speak again with the right help — I'm certain of it. And when I learned that her idiot ex had never touched her sexually, my desire for her grew even stronger. The moment I made her mine and confirmed that I am the only man who has ever touched her beautiful body, I understood that I would never let her go. We would fill our lives with children and grow old together. That much I can promise.

After making her mine and taking a bath in the tub — where I couldn't resist doing it again — we fell asleep in each other's arms. I watched her sleep on my chest, so comfortable, and I couldn't stop admiring her as she slept.

"You are my queen and you deserve everything," I whispered, leaving a kiss on her forehead. I closed my eyes, and after a while, I opened them to a sound coming from the door.

A knock.

"What is it?" I asked while my queen went on sleeping.

"Young master, your brother Victor is downstairs," Martha informed me.

"I'll be down in a moment," I replied, and heard her footsteps retreat.

Carefully, I got out of bed, dressed, and got ready to go down. I covered my queen with the blanket and left the room in my chair. I took the elevator down to meet my brother, who I didn't even know was in the city.

"Well, well — married life suits you. Sleeping in the afternoon now, are we?" my brother teased. How the hell does he know that?

"How did you find out?" I asked.

"I have friends at the civil registry. She got divorced and married you on the same day. That surprised me. Are you sure she's not a gold digger?" Victor asked.

"She's not. Her father forced her to marry the first time, and he was going to do the same again — but with a disgusting old man. I simply took that old man's place without her family knowing, and now she'll be my beautiful queen and the mother of your nieces and nephews. So watch how you treat her," I warned.

"From what I can see, she matters a lot to you. And if you're so sure she'll be the mother of my nieces and nephews, then I'm happy — and Mom and Dad will be thrilled. They've wanted grandchildren for ages. You should call them," Victor suggested.

"Not yet. I want to call them when she's expecting our first child. I don't want Mom pressuring her," I replied.

"All right, I'm off. Take good care of my sister-in-law — wouldn't want her running away from you and leaving us without Petrov grandchildren," Victor joked.

"Don't worry. She's going to be treated like the queen she is," I replied.

"Good to hear. See you soon." Victor left, and I went back upstairs. She was still sleeping, so beautiful. After a while, I got back into bed with her and held her. She clung to me, and I liked that. I closed my eyes with her in my arms, and when I opened them again, she was awake, staring right at me with her gorgeous green eyes.

"This is the best way I've ever woken up." I kissed her, and she looked surprised — but I want her too much. I don't think I'll ever get tired of her. After another round, we went downstairs for dinner, and I invited her to watch a movie. She happily agreed.

With plenty of junk food, we sat in front of the TV to watch a horror movie she had picked out. She looked so happy just watching a movie that it melted my heart. We cuddled on the sofa, and every time a scary scene came on, she buried her face in my chest — like a big kid looking for shelter. And I was happy to be her shelter, always. By the end of the movie, she had fallen asleep on my chest, so I watched her for a while and then drifted off too, with her resting on me.
