Chapter Two
Later that evening, Sarah was sitting on her couch watching TV when she heard a knock at the door. She got up to answer it, and was surprised to see David standing there.
"Hi, Sarah," he said. "Can I come in?"
Sarah hesitated for a moment, but then nodded and let him in. They sat down on the couch, awkwardly looking at each other.
"I just wanted to say hi," David said. "I saw you earlier today and I realized how much I missed you."
Sarah was taken aback by his words. She had never expected to hear that from him. She felt a mix of emotions - anger, sadness, and confusion.
"What do you mean?" she asked. "We're divorced. It's over."
"I know," David said. “But I've been thinking a lot lately. I realize now that I was wrong to treat you the way I did. I want to try again, Sarah. I want us to have a second chance.”
Sarah felt a pang of hope and fear in her chest. She had dreamed of hearing those words from David for years, but now that they were actually being said, she wasn't sure if she was ready to believe them. The pain he had caused her during their marriage was still fresh in her mind, and she didn't want to go through that again.
"I don't know, David," she said. "I'm not sure if I can trust you again."
"I understand that," David replied. "But please, Sarah, give me a chance to make things right. I know I messed up, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to earn your forgiveness."
Sarah thought about it for a few moments. Despite her reservations, a part of her still loved David and longed to be with him again. She wanted to believe that he had changed, that he was truly sorry for what he had done.
"I'll think about it," she said finally. "But I need time. I can't just jump back into a relationship with you like nothing ever happened."
"I understand," David said. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here whenever you're ready."
They talked for a while longer, catching up on each other's lives and reminiscing about old times. Sarah found herself enjoying David's company, laughing at his jokes and feeling a sense of comfort in his presence. But at the same time, she couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty that lingered in the back of her mind.
As the night wore on, David eventually got up to leave. He gave Sarah a tentative hug before heading out the door.
"Take care of yourself, Sarah," he said. "I'll be in touch."
Sarah watched him walk away, feeling a mix of emotions once again. She wasn't sure what the future held for her and David, but she knew that she needed to take things slow and be cautious. She didn't want to rush into anything and end up getting hurt again.
With a heavy sigh, she settled back onto the couch, her mind racing with thoughts and emotions. She wasn't sure where this unexpected visit from David would lead, but for the first time in a long while, she felt a glimmer of hope.
