A very unique coincidence. Redi is on his way to his apartement. Not long after Gya left, his taxibike arrived. Just past the campus gate, he found Gya struggling to push the motorbike. It looks like the bike tire has a problem.
At first Redi allowed himself to be a selfish figure. He didn't decide to help Gya at all. But in the end Redi asked his driver to stop. Redi gave up the taxibike fare as an apology to the driver even though he had not arrived at his destination. He rushed to run towards Gya. They ended up at a nearby repair shop that could be found at that time.
"I can go home alone," Redi said. He avoided the gaze of Gya who was sitting right beside him.
"If you can go home alone, why are you still here with me?" her question left him speechless. "Your apartement must be far, right? Then let me take…”
"I'm just worried because you're alone," Redi interrupted. "You easily trust strangers. When I helped earlier, you immediately said yes to my offer. What if you are tricked by someone?”
Redi spoke long involuntarily. Somehow he suddenly grumbled and made Gya confused.
"Stranger?" Gya asked, tilting her head and blinking her eyes.
"Yes. I-I-I'm a stranger."
"You are?" asked Gya again.
"Yes. I am." This time, Redi couldn't help but look at her.
Her laughter broke instantly. Her soft voice sounded crisp in her laughter. Unknowingly, Redi turned his body towards her. It took a few seconds for her to stop laughing.
“You are not a stranger. I know you. You are Redi, aren’t you? Mr. Young’s student, right?”
Redi's face turned red. He turned his face away from Gya and bit his lip, holding back the embarrassment.
"We've met twice before. In front of the lecturer room and in the parking lot of the department. Ah, and Mr. Young also told me about you, the rare student."
What? Redi's mind could not accept the nickname given by Mr. Young. Then he immediately replied to Gya's words.
"It’s not because I skipped the class intentionally. It is because I participate some tournaments."
Seeing that, she then laughed again. Redi cursed himself inside his heart because he unknowingly acted like a child in front of her. He turned his face away from Gya's again.
"Anyway, I'll take you home later. After all, I am indebted for being helped. Besides, you are Mr. Young’s my student. So, you are my student too. So don't reject it, please accept it," she offered again, still gently.
Redi was cornered and nodded his head in agreement with Gya's offer. However, deep inside Redi's heart, it was as if something had stabbed him and her words kept repeating in his head, "You are my student, too." It felt odd when he heard that sentence. Like, it was squeezing his heart tightly.
He secretly glanced at Gya and quickly looked away when she caught him then smiled. Redi's heart was pounding.
Why am I like this? Damn! Redi cursed in his heart.
"Mrs. Gya is so much suffering." Lala's words ring in his head. He stole another glance at Gya who was engrossed in watching the process of repairing her motorcycle. Sometimes she smiles brightly when talking lightly with the repair shop owner.
What are you hiding, so you have to wear that mask? asked Redi inside his heart.
"Redi, let me take you home. My motorbike has been repaired. Gya surprises Redi who is preoccupied with his own thoughts.
"Y-yes, Mrs," Redi stuttered.
"I'll be the driver," said Gya, who was ready beside her motorbike.
Redi widened, his jaw automatically opened. He shook his head slowly, he couldn't believe the idea that she released. What? She hitchhiked me? Me? Impossible! My body is almost twice as big as her, how could she be strong enough to carry that motorbike with me behind her?! What was she thinking?!
"Mrs, I'm not a child. I'll drive,” Redi protested then swiftly replaced the driver's position.
Gya was surprised but said nothing. Redi patted the seat behind him, telling Gya to get on the motorbike. Without refusal, she complied with Redi. Hence Redi raised his lips, smiling.
The sun had long since set. Their journey seemed long because they were silent. Redi tried to focus on road even though it was difficult to concentrate his mind. Redi wanted to strike up a conversation but he really had nothing to talk about. He hoped Gya would start a conversation, anything. But she was also silent the whole way. Even when they arrived at Redi's apartement, they were still awkward to talk to.
"Thank you very much," Redi said briefly.
Gya smiled at Redi's words. Seeing that, Redi's heart was getting erratic. But Redi didn't have time to curse himself like before. He was too engrossed in enjoying her smile. He sure as hell was looking like an idiot. There was no reason for him to avoid her gaze like before.
“I should be the one thanking you, Redi. You have helped me."
"It is nothing. You also took me to my apartment."
"You are very kind, Red. Okay, I am going home then. Have a good rest," she said with a smile that still pulled her cheeks up.
"Ah, yes, Mrs. Be careful on the way."
After that, she left, leaving Redi alone in front of the gate. Instantly Redi leaned his body against the fence wall. His whole body limp. But his eyes were still following Gya's back which seemed to be getting further away. Her small body got smaller and disappeared from his sight.
"You are very kind, Redi." The sentence was repeated over and over in his memory. Redi's heart jumped for joy.
"Bullshit," Redi muttered.
