Chapter 2

In the alley, I rip off a part of my dress and bandage my foot.

Suddenly, a weird noise occupies the air, I creep closer to the source of the noise.

A creature jumps out at me!

It's got long teeth and long trails of drool.

Looking behind it, I see body parts.

The blood is all over the creature, and it's still chewing on a bone.

I remember the Taewondo that I learned.

But, I don't use it.

I don't know why.

Instead I throw a rock, hitting it's eye.

The creature growls, sounding angry.

It blindly scratches it's eye.

Then I run for it.

Running down the alley.

The creature is behind me, but I can't look back.

I run down the street, trying to look normal.

Trying to blend into the crowd, I take out my phone.

I pretend to whisper into my phone, that I'll "miss the sale, if I don't run for it".

Then I get "angry" because the sale is almost "over".

I look back, and see nothing.

Just as I feel relief, I run into a person who set up their shop outside.

I trick over pots and pans, and the noise is deafening.

Everyone looks.

I panic, AGAIN.

One of the people chasing after me earlier sees me.

He yells to the others, and they race down from the roof.

Before they can, someone sticks a needle in my neck.

As the darkness takes over, I hear him whisper, "I'm gonna help you, ok?"

Everything goes black.

In the background, I hear running water, but my eyelids feel heavy, too heavy.

I must have been drugged.

"I know things about you, Zari." The voice from earlier says.

I am too tired, so I listen.

"We can help each other, I'm like you." The voice continues.

I want to ask in what way, but my mouth feels like there's sticky syrup gluing it together.

"The government are looking for you, Zari they know that you got over your fear."

I keep listening.

"You should have been more careful, you know what happens, don't you?"

I wait for a name to attach to this voice, but none come.

"People die Zari, and I can't let the government kill one more person because they know the government's weakness"

The drug is wearing off, I can feel it, apparently the person knows it's wearing off.

"Sorry, but I have to keep you drugged, for my safety and yours."

Another needle enters my neck.

The familiar darkness swallows me whole, yet again.

Memories fall through my brain, allowing me to relive them.

The time I almost drowned.

My 13th birthday.

Sam, my best friend, getting killed at a shooting.

The boy at school who mysteriously disappeared.

All the memories.

All of them.

Feeling the agony and mystery in each one.

I realize, that not one time in my life, I haven't been completely happy.

I cry out when I relive the drowning experience.

I sigh in relief when the Officers passed my house.

Before I get lost in darkness, a voice enters my head,

"My name is Kade remember that, Zari. Now sleep."
