What can I do?

[Narrator speaking]

"Why would you do such a thing as to get your cousin's new dress and tear it? are you that jealous? and on top of that, you even grabbed the fresh loaf of banana bread I had just finished baking just so you could feed it to that dammed Rabbit. You've been awfully bad this week, but I recognize it's all my fault for being too soft on you. Gosh and why do you always have your head facing the floor, even when someone talks to you don't you know how disrespectful that is? Jeez, this girl..." Said Aunt Milly, with a look of disgust as she looked down at the little girl Aella who sat in seiza-style bowing without ever having her head facing up.

"I... didn't tear her dress... and Aimi was starving and needed to eat..." Responded the little girl in her defense, almost coming out as a mumble. "What did you just say?! do you expect me to believe that my daughter tore her own dress? you can't even come up with a proper excuse what a useless and shameless girl. And what do I care if your rabbit was hungry? you could have fed her your food or even the plants that grow outside for all I care, you treat her better than you treat yourself, I might have to get rid of her one of these days." The little girl's aunt said with a sigh.

"No please don't!!" The little girl desperately pleaded as she arose to her feet in an instant as soon as she heard those words escape her aunt's mouth.

"You don't have a say in this, I'm your caregiver, and you owe me obedience. But since I'm feeling a bit compassionate right now, I'll allow him to stay in this house under one condition... she'll now be my daughter's pet, not yours, and you are not to touch her anymore is that clear?" The little girl's aunt asked with a devilish smirk creeping up to her face.

The little girl knew this was as good as it could get, she knew that if she didn't accept this offer, something bad would happen to Aimi.

Hesitantly, she nodded, "Yes... thank you for your compassion..." She said as she grasped her hand tightly. The little girl had a feeling that Aimi would not be treated well by her cousin, and she felt horrible at the thought that there was nothing she could do about it. "Oh, and one more thing... you are grounded, you won't have any dinner tonight, and you'll spend the rest of the night in the basement." The little girl's aunt said as she walked away, her cousin following with a big evil smirk planted on her face, a smirk that read off "I win."

The little girl stood there trembling in fear, lamenting about what could possibly await Aimi her rabbit.

[Narrating stops]

20 minutes earlier:

*Aella wakes up after she had fallen asleep next to Aimi, with the delicious smell of freshly baked banana bread, she gets up half asleep and follows the smell.*

"This smell, is it banana bread?" I asked myself as I followed the scent toward the kitchen. I remembered Aimi really liked bananas and I always used to feed her bananas as a treat when I trained her, Aunt Milly didn't usually buy bananas so I never got the chance to feed her any ever since we came here to her house.

I'm not entirely sure if rabbits can eat bread, but since it's banana bread and Aimi is very hungry, I guess it would be okay for her to eat some. Aunt Milly can't possibly get very mad just because I grabbed some of her banana bread right?

At last, I arrived at the kitchen and there it was, a freshly baked loaf of banana bread sitting right there at the table. "Should I grab it or not? What if Aunt Milly really does get mad at me when she finds out that I grabbed her bread to feed it to Aimi?" I thought hesitating at the thought.

"But then again... She's my Aunt, there's no way she would be capable of hurting me. Besides, it's for Aimi's sake she's hungry so she might understand and let it slide...right?" I thought, as I looked at the irresistible loaf of bread, trying to convince myself that it would be okay for me to grab it.

"Oh forget it! Aimi needs it!" I said, and I took a piece of the bread and headed back to my room excited to see Aimi's cute overjoyed face when she saw it.

"Aimi look!! I brought you some banana bread! I know it might not be better than the actual banana, but at least it'll still taste good come and try it!" I said as soon as I opened the door to my room, and as always Aimi was already there happily waiting for me.

*Aella lowers the piece of bread and holds it as Aimi approaches to sniff it, and soon enough she starts eating.*

"I'm glad you like it." I said with a smile as I looked at Aimi enjoying her bread.

*Keiko arrives at the house and heads towards the entrance*

"I'm home Mother." Keiko announced when she came back from school and closed the front door behind her.

*Aunt Milly comes out of her room and heads out to greet her daughter.*

"Ah Keiko, you're back so soon! Are you hungry? Come to the kitchen after you go get changed, I have a surprise for you!" Aunt Milly tells Keiko.

"Okay, I'll hurry up!" Responds Keiko, and goes to her room.

[Seven minutes later.]

"Mother... look at this!!" Says Keiko with tears in her eyes as she leaves her room and goes to her Mother, that had just arrived at the kitchen.

"What is it Keiko? Is something the matte-" Asks Aunt Milly without finishing her sentence, for she is shocked when she glanced over at her eaten loaf of bread.

"What the... Oh, my what happened to your dress!?"Aunt Milly said after she saw Keiko's new dress all torn.

"It was Aella, I'm sure of it! I asked her to iron it this morning, she was probably jealous that you got me a new dress and decided to tear it out of anger after I left for school." Claimed Keiko as she cried, with an innocent face.

"Aella that girl... She was probably also the culprit to what happened to my loaf of bread. She won't get away with this." Aunt Milly said, gripping her fists filled with anger, and then she headed straight to Aella's room.

*As Aunt Milly headed to Aella's room, Aella was happily observing her dear friend Aimi napping in her lap after she was full from eating the piece of bread.*

[Present time]

“Now… What can I do Grandma?...”- Aella.
