The Poor Girl
Every day, Xiao Mei went to school with her lunchbox and her backpack on her back. She lived with her family in a small hut near the school. Her family was very poor, and they didn't have much money to spend on luxuries like food and clothing. Xiao Mei's parents were farmers who had to work hard all day to earn a living.
As soon as she got home from school, Xiao Mei went to work in the fields with her parents. They picked fruits and vegetables from the earth all day long, hoping to earn enough money to survive.
One day, as Xiao Mei was walking back to her family's hut after a long day of work in the fields, she saw a group of rich kids playing basketball in the parking lot near her school. They had their shoes off and were dribbling balls between their legs, laughing and joking with each other.
Xiao Mei couldn't help feeling jealous of their lives. They seemed so carefree and happy. She wished she could join their fun and games, but she knew she wouldn't be accepted by the rich kids.
As the days passed, Xiao Mei found it harder and harder to focus on her studies. She was always distracted by thoughts of how fortunate the rich kids were. She longed for a life where she could wear nicer clothes and eat better food.
One day, Xiao Mei overheard her classmates talking about an upcoming school fundraiser. They were asking for donations from parents and other students to support a charity that provided food and blankets to the poor.
Xiao Mei thought that this might be her chance to make a real change in her life. She knew that her family needed help, but she also knew that she couldn't change her situation by herself. Maybe this charity could help her family too.
So, Xiao Mei begged her parents for permission to participate in the charity event. They reluctantly agreed, but they didn't have much hope that it would make a difference.
When the day of the charity event arrived, Xiao Mei was overjoyed. She had never felt so energized and alive. She worked hard all day long, helping to prepare and cook food for the needy children in their community. She even sang a few songs to make the event more enjoyable for everyone.
As the day drew to a close, Xiao Mei felt a sense of accomplishment. She had done something that she knew would make a difference in someone's life. She felt grateful for her family, for the opportunity to go to school, and for her own sense of worth.
But as she was walking home from the event, Xiao Mei saw a group of rich kids driving past in their fancy cars. They were laughing and talking together, as if they didn't have a care in the world.
Xiao Mei couldn't help but feel angry and jealous. She wished she could be like them, living the life of ease without having to help others.
But as she walked home, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She realized that she was hungry, and she realized that she needed to help her family first.
From that day forward, Xiao Mei determined to focus on her studies and earn a diploma. She also worked hard on the farm, helping to grow crops and prepare meals every day.
But most importantly, she made a promise to herself to help others in need. She knew that it would be a challenging path, but she was determined to follow it with all of her heart.
Years later, Xiao Mei became a successful businesswoman, but she always remembered the day she volunteered at the charity event as the beginning of her journey. The poor girl who lived in a small hut near the school had become a rich woman who made a difference in the lives of others.
