I picked up the burning wood from the ground, not worrying about the fire outside, as the rain was about to begin. I took the burning piece of wood to illuminate the environment for her. I didn't need that lighting, as I could see every bit of that place perfectly with my wolf vision.
As soon as we crossed that entire cave, we came out in another part of the forest, and there she could see our immense house. Its fireplaces were lit, but it was something we didn't need, the blood running through our veins warmed our bodies, like a natural heater. She then looked at me incredulously as she threw the burning wood at the cave exit.
"Would you really leave me in that cave, with a house this size?" What was reflected in her gaze? Irritation? That almost made me laugh.
"I didn't force you to stay there. Remember it was your choice?" I retorted, raising an eyebrow.
"But I stayed there because I thought you guys lived in the cave." She replied, even more irritated.
"It's not my fault you thought we were primitive. Although you're not entirely wrong." As soon as we entered the house, my parents were already waiting for us in the living room, however, they cast curious glances at the clothes she was wearing.
"I told you she probably wasn't from here." My mother was the first to approach, hugging her.
"Welcome, dear. We heard about what you did for Paul, and we are very grateful for your generosity." She deduced who my mother was referring to.
"It was nothing special. How is he? Did you take him to a hospital?"
"It wasn't necessary. We have a private doctor who attends us at home." She looked at us in surprise.
"Can I see Paul? Is that the right name?" My mother smiled and nodded.
"Why do you want to see my brother?" I asked sharply, while my parents looked at me without understanding my reaction. I didn't like her concern for my brother. That made my wolf irritated.
"And what's wrong with seeing him?" She challenged me with her gaze and we had a brief staring contest. My mother, noticing my tension, intervened promptly.
"Honey, how about you take a bath first and warm up? I can see you're shaking. Paul is resting right now, but I'm sure you'll see him soon. Are you hungry?" She now had a charming smile on her face, and my wolf was even more fascinated by that woman.
"Actually, I'm starving!" she told my mother, who took her by the shoulder and led her to provide her with a bath and food. I noticed my father giving me one of his questioning looks.
"This girl captivated your wolf, didn't she?" He said and then started to laugh. "It won't be that easy, my son, she's too wild."
I looked at him and left the room, returning to the night forest. My wolf needed some freedom, as if he hadn't spent much free time today. My brother was injured once again due to human invasions of our land. They came in search of our gold, believing they could take what was ours without facing consequences. A nobleman who wished to take possession of our territory encouraged these invasions more and more, and now we were hunted by idiotic humans in search of our fortunes.
My mind returned to that woman, probably brought by the sacred tree. However, at some point, she might decide to leave, even knowing that she belonged to us: me and my wolf. I needed to find out why she came. The tree didn't bring just anyone for no reason. The desire had to be very true for that. What did she wish for that brought her here?
That kind lady took me upstairs and led me to a room, no doubt very elegant. She then pointed to another door, informing me that it was the bathroom, and assured me that I could use it at will, while she provided clean clothes for me. I understood that she had a daughter, almost my age. I wondered if all those children were adopted, as her face looked so youthful.
Upon entering the bathroom, I noticed the presence of an ofuro in the environment. Ofuro is a kind of wooden jacuzzi. I turned on the tap and could appreciate the rustic elegance of the bathroom, which, like the rest of the house, was beautifully decorated. The water temperature was warm, and as soon as I got in, my body thanked me immediately, sinking into a feeling of relaxation.
When I finished my bath and entered the room, I found a stunning dress on the bed. It appeared to be made of a fine fabric, in blue. It fit my body perfectly, as if it had been made to measure. At that moment, I heard the roar of the same beast that had startled me near that tree. I went to the door, which I believed to be the balcony door, and opened it. It was as if the animal was calling me.
Despite the darkness outside, I could see him clearly. His eyes shone like two citrine stones, and he appeared to be much larger than the wolves that attacked me. His fur was completely white. I wondered if that was a wolf. In what mysterious place had I just landed?
The wolf seemed to realize he was being watched and turned his gaze in my direction. That scared me deeply, but for some reason, I couldn't move. The wolf approached the house, and at that moment I realized that I was holding my breath involuntarily.
