Legal battle begins

Parm's evening took an unexpected turn after leaving Karan around 5 PM. Straight away, he headed to the nearest city and arrived at the law firm. The watchman stationed outside the office informed him that the firm was closed. Unfazed, Parm insisted he knew someone inside and requested passage.

However, the watchman remained steadfast, denying Parm entry. Undeterred, Parm boldly declared, "Call him down here; he'll recognize me." The watchman explained that the person in question was busy. In frustration, Parm began shouting, using colorful language to coax the watchman into action. The watchman, annoyed, retreated inside to call the lawyer.

As Parm waited, Charan, an old childhood friend and the lawyer, descended the office stairs. Charan's face transformed from anger to delight upon seeing Parm. They exchanged a warm hug, reminiscing about their past. However, Parm quickly redirected the conversation, revealing a dire situation involving his nephew and a murder case.

Parm dismissed Charan's offer of help regarding the recent deaths in his family, stating it involved his nephew committing a crime. As they settled into the luxurious office, Charan ordered tea from the watchman. Observing Parm's surroundings, Charan noted his friend's success in the legal field.

Parm, cutting straight to the point, explained that Karan had killed his teacher after being provoked. Charan inquired about the details, discovering the brutal nature of the crime – over 40 hits with a cricket bat. As the watchman served tea, the conversation continued.

Charan, displaying legal acumen, questioned the possibility of witnesses. Parm confirmed that the entire college could testify to the incident. Charan then suggested a defense strategy, proposing to argue that Karan was not in the right mental state due to the recent tragedy of losing his parents.

Parm expressed reluctance, not wanting to face further trouble. Charan, however, assured him that proving Karan mentally unstable and placing him in a mental hospital was the best legal course. The plan involved Karan spending one night without hope, preparing for the legal battle the next morning.

Parm, grateful for Charan's guidance, thanked him before leaving the firm. Outside, he sensed the watchman's suspicious eyes, but Parm's attention shifted as Balbir, his mother, called in distress. Assuring her that everything was fine, Parm promised to be home by 7 PM.

Riding his motorcycle, Parm reflected on the turbulent evening. The night held uncertainty, but with Charan's assistance, he hoped to navigate the legal complexities surrounding Karan's case. Little did he know the challenges that lay ahead as he raced against time to ensure justice for his troubled nephew. Parm's arrival home at 7:05 PM was met with a tense atmosphere. His wife and child had returned from school (Parm wife is a teacher), but the palpable distress of Parm's mother, , overshadowed their reunion. Rushing toward Parm with tears streaming down her face, She pleaded for news of her grandson. Parm, maintaining his composure, calmly explained that their nephew, Karan, had been involved in a confrontation with a teacher and was currently detained at the police station.

Despite Parm's assurances of swift action, She distress erupted into a slap across his face. Shocked, Parm embraced his mother, promising to resolve the situation. With his wife and child looking on in disbelief, Parm guided his mother to her room, instructing his wife to comfort her while he faced the impending crisis.

Outside, Balbir confronted Parm, sensing deception in his explanation. Admitting to the lie, Parm confided the grim truth: Karan, Parm's nephew, had killed his teacher. Balbir recoiled in horror, questioning Parm's decision to disregard warnings against sending Karan to college. Determined to protect his family, Parm revealed his plan to prove Karan's unstable mental state and secure treatment rather than incarceration. At 7:30 AM the next morning, Parm, accompanied by Charan, arrived at the police station. Inside, Kamal greeted them, probing for information about Parm's cryptic warnings. Unwilling to divulge anything further, Parm remained silent as Charan announced his intention to meet with their client.

Confronted by Kamal's suspicions, Parm deflected, attributing his earlier remarks to the heat of the moment. Charan approached Karan's cell, greeted by the steel bars that separated them. Karan's eyes blazed with anger as he locked gazes with Charan, suspicion etched into his features.

"Who are you?" Karan's voice was laced with hostility as he eyed Charan with distrust.

Undeterred, Charan remained composed, his demeanor professional yet empathetic. "I'm your lawyer," he replied calmly, meeting Karan's gaze evenly. "Your uncle hired me to help you."

Karan's lips curled into a sneer. "I thought he was gonna break me out of jail," he spat, his tone dripping with bitterness.

Charan's expression softened, understanding the weight of Karan's disillusionment. "Breaking out of jail wouldn't solve anything," he said gently. "We need to focus on a strategy to address the charges against you."

Karan's shoulders tensed, his frustration palpable. "Well, everybody saw what happened," he muttered bitterly. "There's no way to prove I'm innocent."

Charan's gaze softened with empathy. "I understand it seems impossible right now," he admitted. "But I have a proposal that might offer a way forward."

Curiosity flickered in Karan's eyes, though skepticism still lingered. "What's your proposal?" he asked, his voice guarded.

"I'll argue in court that you were not in the right mental state at the time of the incident," Charan explained carefully. "We'll request that the court orders treatment for you instead of immediate incarceration. It's our best chance at getting you the help you need."

Karan's brow furrowed, uncertainty clouding his features. "So, you want to send me to a mental hospital?" he asked, suspicion tainting his tone.

Charan shook his head, his voice firm yet gentle. "I don't think you're 'mad,' Karan," he said reassuringly. "But you were clearly struggling, and you deserve a chance to address those struggles in a supportive environment."

Karan's jaw clenched, his emotions warring within him. "And what if they don't believe you?" he challenged, his voice tinged with desperation.

Charan met Karan's gaze unwaveringly. "Then we'll find another way," he vowed. "But I believe this is our best chance at securing a better outcome for you."

Tension hung heavy in the air as Karan wrestled with Charan's proposal, the weight of his circumstances pressing down on him like a suffocating blanket. But amidst the turmoil, a flicker of hope ignited within him—a glimmer of possibility in the darkness of uncertainty.

Outside the cell, Parm watched the exchange with a heavy heart, his mind racing with the gravity of their situation. With each passing moment, the enormity of their nephew's predicament weighed heavily on him, fueling his determination to see justice served and their family restored.

As Charan and Karan continued their conversation, Parm braced himself for the daunting journey ahead, knowing that their bond as a family would be their greatest strength in the tumultuous days to come. And though the road ahead was fraught with challenges, Parm remained steadfast in his resolve to protect their family and secure a brighter future for them all. Karan: My uncle said it's okay if I go to the mental hospital

Charan: Yeah, because that's the only way you'll get out of this cell.

Karan: But then I'll just end up in another locked room.

Charan: It's a step up from a cell, Karan, and we'll work on getting you out once you're stable.

Karan: with a fearful expression How many times do I need to assure you I'm fine?

Charan: Being not mad doesn't necessarily mean you're okay.

Karan: What are you implying?

Charan: Let me ask you something. Why did you laugh after killing your teacher? Your teacher had no connection to your parents' death. Why the manic laughter?

Karan found himself speechless.

Charan: I'll tell you why. I've delved into your past, Karan. You were a child devoid of confidence, ridiculed by everyone, lacking in friends, and hesitant to reveal your true emotions. You buried your feelings deep within, harboring hatred towards others. You've entertained thoughts of violence even before your parents' demise, but their love restrained you. Now that barrier of love is gone, and your suppressed emotions and animosity are erupting. You're desperate to evade mockery, believing there's no one to defend you. Yet, by eliminating those you perceive as threats, you seek to silence the ridicule. But trust me, it will only amplify.

Karan struggled to hold back tears but he managed and remained silent.

Charan: You're mistaken, Karan. You do have defenders – your uncle and me. We'll extricate you from this abyss. However, I detect a distinct homicidal intent in your gaze. By releasing you, am I unleashing a monster driven by a penchant for violence? Nonetheless, I believe in your capacity for change. Don't force me to regret this decision. Are you willing to accept my proposition?

Karan simply nodded in assent.

Charan: Excellent. I'll depart now, but rest assured, your liberation is imminent.

After Charan left, Karan appeared to retreat into emotional suppression once more. As Parm eagerly inquired about Karan's response, Charan reassured him of Karan's compliance, prompting Parm to exhale a sigh of relief. Turning to Officer Kamal, Charan challenged the decision to confine a mentally unstable individual.

Kamal: I anticipated you'd resort to that argument. Nevertheless, he's a murderer deserving of confinement.

Charan: Your predictability doesn't absolve the injustice, Officer Kamal. Today, I'll demonstrate in court why Karan belongs in a hospital, not a cell. I'll submit the application promptly to ensure his transfer, as he requires urgent medical attention. Mark my words, Officer, you won't succeed in proving his sanity, for Karan is in dire need of treatment.

Kamal: You're quite vocal, lawyer, and once again, you side with a criminal. Let the legal proceedings determine the outcome.

Undeterred, Charan proposed that he and Parm proceed to the courtroom to file their application, aiming to secure Karan's relocation before his initial hearing. With a nod of agreement, Parm and Charan departed the police station, Kamal's resentful gaze following their departure.
