Episode 4 - Beyond the Castle walls

Chapter 4 - Beyond the Castle Walls

Zelly woke up to hands shaking her.

“Zelda, wake up, you slug!”

The voice was familiar, but this person sounded like she was disgusted.

“Your mother wants me to help her pack your clothes so you can sleep in, but I don’t know what you want to wear! Why don’t you pack yourself? I don’t have time for this.

Zelly looked up to find her best friend staring at her.

“Olivia!” She shouted, “How have you been? I missed you so much!” she sat up and wrapped her arms around her.

“Ugh! You disgusting filth! I thought I told you that we only act in front of your parents. And who is Olivia? My name is ‘Livia. Would you stop choking me? I get that you are a princess and all but what is the kingdom going to think when their future queen murdered the prime minister’s daughter?”

Zelly pulled back in surprise. ‘What’s her problem? Salty much?’

‘THE PEOPLE YOU SEE HERE HAVE DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES THAN THE PEOPLE IN YOUR WORLD. IT IS LIKE WHAT YOU’RE PEOPLE CALL AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE. EVERYONE LOOKS THE SAME, BUT THE SOUL IS DIFFERENT. THE BODY THAT YOU ARE IN NOW IS MY BODY WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE. YOU HAVE THE SAME BODY IN YOUR WORLD.'

'This is what you call a friend?'

'WHEN YOU DON'T WANNA DEAL WITH PEOPLE SHE IS THE BEST FRIEND YOU CAN POSSIBLY HAVE'.

After packing a few dresses up in the queen’s wardrobe, the Queen was saddened, because that meant that she had to leave her daughter. “Go on.” she said to Zelly. “I’ll have to let you go some day.” Zelly gave “her mom” a bear hug. Though this wasn’t her real mother, and she had only seen her in “her room” the day before,  Zelly felt comfortable in her arms. It was like her mom’s spirit had been combined with another person. Zelly pulled away, and started walking down the halls. When they both pulled away, the three guards and the servant man were ready to go.

When they walked down the halls, out of the main castle, and downa little ways of the gravel path, Zelda saw a man controlling the two horses that carried the carriage behind them.

All three of the guards kneeled on one knee and said “my princess,” motioning for her to get in the carriage.

She took a step into the carriage, lifting herself off of the ground and ducking, so she doesn’t hit her head. She took a look at the carriage. Not much in it. There were two benches on both the opposite side of where she was standing and one behind where the coachman was sitting. She saw a curtain in the back of the carriage. She brushed the curtains aside to find a small room. It was the size of the trunk of a pickup truck. There was a mattress (blankets stuffed with straw and feathers) and a small pillow next to a few barrels. ‘I’m guessing those are my clothes.’ Zelly thought, smile on her face. Someone had moved the clothes that she, her mother and ‘Livia had packed into the carriage after they had finished. Zelly was proud of herself for being able to learn the fashion of the people in this time and age. Zelly sat down on the mattress and got an ink cartridge, a bird quill, and some parchment and started jotting some of her thoughts.

I am Zelly, not Zelda. I followed that strange man into the woods to find that I’m not even in the same universe. It turns out that I am now in the body of the Queen of Kamingris, Zelda. Time for her kingdom has turned back, so I’m the future Queen. In this world, I have a mother, but no father, as he apparently died. I have heard from Zelda, as she sometimes appears in my head as a voice. I have to finish a quest in order to travel to Jorvan in disguise to act as a spy against the former allies of Kamingris. The current Queen presumes that they are planning something mysterious as they don’t show us the same kindness as they once did. I am in the carriage to Jorvan as we speak.

“Can I have a map?” Zelly asked the five other people in this carriage, as she opened the curtains.

“Here’s a map, though it’s not very detailed.” A guard reached for a small piece of parchment under the bench he was sitting on and handed it to Zelda. She smiled at the guard. “Thank you!”

Zelda looked at the map.

(I decided to add a map to give you an Idea of the land around the Kingdom)

‘Though it isn’t very detailed, it shows the rough idea of where we are going,’ thought Zelly.

“We are still in Kamingrid, but In about a day we will meet the border.” said the guard that handed her the map.

‘Oh, boy. I’m not big on long rides’ Zelly sat herself up on the bench behind the coachman and decided to make small talk. “So how was your day?”
