A Girl And A Boy
April POV
It was the first day of school. I was heading out the door. Walking somewhat fast, to get out of that house. I was mad at how my dad had been drinking so much since mom left. She left because my dad had lost his job and they had been fighting more and more recently. After one fight, she had finally left. I shouldn’t be thinking about this it’ll just ruin my day. The Sun was beautiful today. The grass was wet from the rain last night.
I slowed down. Gazed at the kids that were being dropped off by their parents. It made me angry. I started running didn’t know where but just ran. I bumped into someone. Who was it? I stayed on the ground for a second adjusting my eyes. It was a boy? He gave me his hand it felt so gentle and soft.
“Hey are you ok?” He asked
“Yea I’m fine, thanks of asking.” I said
“Oh um, what’s your name.” I asked
“My name is Sam.” He said with a big smile.
He seems so nice and happy. How can someone be so happy?
“What’s your name.” He asked
“My name’s April.” I replied
“Just like the month April.” He slightly laughed.
“Yea just like the month.”
“Well we should get to class, I’ll find someway to repay you for bumping into you.” I said.
“Yea we should get to class, you don’t have to”
His words had faded and I didn’t get to hear the last part or what he said. It didn’t matter though. I was glad that someone gave me a warm smile at the start of the day.
I slumped into my chair. Scanning the room of all the new faces. As usual I tried to stay in the back of the classroom, so nobody could really see me. I was never really good at making friends. Most people thought I was cold and mean. I looked at the door seeing some people come in. I saw him. The guy that I bumped into. What a small world I thought. With a small chuckle.
I thought of asking him to sit with me. Ugh wait what am I thinking? Why had I become so warm to him? I just bumped to him it’s not like he’ll be my friend or anything. April you can be so stupid sometimes.
“Hey it’s you again.”
“Ahh! Oh it’s just you, you scared me.”
“Am I that scary.” He laughed
“No...it’s just I didn’t expect that you would want to sit next to me...”
“Well you’re a fimilar face to me so I guess that why I sat here.” He said with a soft smile.
“Well I guess so after I ran into you” I said with a slight laugh.
“About that you should be more careful.”
We both laughed.
He is so nice to me. Why though I don’t deserve his kindness. Also are we friends or not know? I don’t really have friends, but with him it’s so easy to talk. A small smile grew on my face. I rarely smiled these days. The class was about to begin. I’m glad that we met at least maybe my life isn’t a total disaster.
