In Too Deep

Prolouge - Six years old

"Wake up, honey," a soft voice said, but it was filled with fear.

The six year old girl woke up and looked up at her mother's face, noticing the red liquid running down the side of her mother's face. She jumped when she heard sword clashing against each other out in the hall. Elina started crying as she heard the cries filled with pain from everywhere. Her mother shook her out of the trance and ran a hand down her face.

"It is no longer safe for you here, honey. Your brother will get you somewhere safe and we will be right behind you," her mother said, but Elina knew better.

She knew what was happening as the doors burst open and several guards came inside. Elina got up from her bed, grabbed the closest thing as a memory and put on her flippers. Her brother came running inside, chatted with their mother a little bit before he picked Elina up and followed after the guard, they guarding the two children from both the front and the back. The young princess got shielded from the worst view, but she let out a high scream as she saw her mother getting grabbed behind them before her brother put his hand over her eyes.

"Get out of here, your majesty!"

All she could hear was the cries and the sound of her brother's footsteps hitting the stone floor, in an uneven tempo. She felt helpless, she couldn't do anything that could help her family, nor could she really believe what was happening to her home? Elina screamed as she felt the safe embrace disappear and her back hitting the wall.

"Elina! Run!" her brother screamed.

The princess looked up just as she could see him disappear in a crowd of people, the scream escaping her. She noticed someone close and rushed over to them, pulling on their cloak.

"Please, help me," she sobbed, tears running down her cheeks as she looked up at the woman that stood there.

It took a moment before the woman even realized that someone was pulling on her cloak, but she looked down at the young girl. For some reason, Elina didn't feel afraid, she couldn't lose more than she already has lost. As she saw that the woman didn't do anything, she walked backwards and her eyes widened. She had to get out of there, that was the only thought in the six year old girl as she turned around and ran.

They're all leaving me behind, how could this even happen? This is just a nightmare!

Elina pushed open the doors to the balcony and looked over the edge. She turned to see the red eyes come closer. Some of them reached for her, making her climb onto the fence. She couldn't let them get her.

"Stop right there, we need this one alive. We have to leave at least one of them alive to tell the rest of the world," a woman's voice said.

Her vision was clouded by the tears, but she couldn't recognize the voice. Elina looked behind her and at the long distance down to the waters underneath her. She looked back at the people with the red eyes before she took a step backwards.

"No!"

It would be better if they didn't have the advantage over her kind, she also wanted to be with her family. The water hugged her tightly and the darkness welcomed her.
