Where the Night Sets.
There’s not really much to expect from a small secluded town in the middle of nowhere. A dusky road that hasn’t been touched in months and a village who’s lights only ever turn on at exactly 7:30 am and turn off at exaclty 10:00pm. Well considerably because it’s exactly what you expect it to be; quiet, small and well, beautiful in a sense that you forget what sound is sometimes. But I live there and I’ve lived there for around 5 years now. Working a minimum wage job at the pizzeria Just in the middle of everything and nothing.
When there is people in the restaurant, and I mean if out of luck there is. They always wear an animal mask over their face and pass me a few bills, eyeing the clock repeatedly tapping their toe against dull wooden flooring. “pepperoni, cheese, that’s it” he says, and waits by the counter. I nod, tilting my pig mask slightly and working the dough. But it’s the only thing these people order, pepperoni pizza and that’s it. I almost find it hard to believe that these people all don’t share a mind. Because they all say the same damn thing. When I’m done the pizza I hand him it and he takes it gladly; I can’t tell if he’s grinning behind that mask, or if he’s nervous. “Thanks.” He smiles, tips the same 25 cents all of them ever tip and walks out the door.
You’d call me a little bit dramatic if I told you that I literally keep count of how many people walk in my restaurant because not too many people take foot inside. And well, he’s number 125. I’m not sure how many people there is in this village, and or if it was always like this. But I certainly know that this wasn’t my life originally. If I remember fondly, I came from a place far far away from here. I don’t remember what happened next but I woke up with a ticking sound behind my neck. When it’s time to pack my things up, the buzzer rings three times. One is a light warning, two is a little later to tell you to hurry. And three is, something I don’t mess with. For the reasons I just get a chill for no reason.
…
To be continued because I hate typing on this program, it’s keeps messing with my writing.
