[THIRD PERSON's Point Of View]
With the last whip to Kira's back, her father turned around walking away from his daughter. Making sure that her father has left, she picked herself off of the floor and started limping away to her room. After an hour of whipping, she can finally get some rest. Picking up her mirror from the bedside table, she faced it on her back and took a look at it.
"That will for sure's gonna leave a mark again," she thought to herself inspecting it before reaching for her worn out but washed towel and started wiping her fresh wounds with water. She winced in pain from the contact but thinking it was not as bad as before since she already got used to it. Ten years of abuse is nothing to her now as its sort of an almost daily routine for her parents when they don't like the food she makes or so they said.
They just want to find reasons and ways to hurt her as she thought that her cooking was not that bad, heck, one of the things she's most proud of is her cooking.
She layed down on her bed facing the right side of her room as to not put pressure on her back so it'll heal properly. She closed her eyes and fell asleep right away from all the tiredness from today's beating. Hoping that she does not have nightmares again of that day, the day her life took a turn for the worst.
**inside Kira's dream**
She was busy playing in their family's yard, as her older brother pushed the swings to where she is seated at.
"Higher Zachy, higher!" she exclaimed to her brother with a huge smile on her face.
"Sure do princess," her brother obliged to his sister's request. He pushed a little harder making his sister go into fits of gleeful laughter. Her brother's smile grew broader from hearing his sister's giggles, proud of himself from making his younger sister smile and laugh.
After fifeen minutes of play, they decided to rest for a while. As they were resting curious five-year-old-then-Kira saw a bunny by the slide on their yard, she came close while her brother let her be. "Make sure not to get too close or you'll be bitten, Kira" he reminded her.
"Hello there little bunny rabbit," she said which startled the bunny, making it run towards the bushes by the woods near their home. "No bunny stay here!" she exclaimed as she ran off to chase after it.
"Wait Kira, don't go!" his brother said in worry as he followed suit. He managed to catch up with her sister and he became anxious from what he sees.
His sister frozen in place as she saw three scary looking men coming her way with the rabbit she was chasing after in one of the man's hand, dead from him strangling it. With great courage surging through his 10-year-old body, Zachary picked a long wooden stick near and rushed to her sister, pushing her behind his back. "Stop! Don't come near us, our parents are just near!" he said to the men, hoping they'd believe it. Thinking of ways to try and escape but he thought of the worst possible scenarios with both of them getting caught. He can't let anything happen to her sister.
"Kira, princess. I want you to run as fast as you can away from here and get help" he whispers to his sister. Which his sister did, she ran with all the might her little feet can muster. One man saw it and started to follow the little girl but was stopped by Zach pointing the stick to them.
He needs to divert their attention away from his sister. He needs to make her be safe at all cost. He swing his stick wildly from left to right, trying to fend them off. The men just laughed at this.
"Do not worry child, we shall not harm you" one of the men spoke with a mocking smile plastered on his scarred face. They all seized the kicking child and dragged him towards their vehicle, driving off to who knows where.
**end of Kira's dream**
Kira woke up in sweats from the horrid dream. Dream? How i wish it was all a dream, she thought to herself. That was the last time she saw her brother that day. Later that night of the incident, their parents came home to a weeping Kira. The child told the parents of what had happen. The parents called in 911 right away and searched for Zachary that same night.
Days comes weeks of them not finding him, slowly losing hope from finding their eldest child. A year after his disappearance, Kira's parents started to neglect the child. At first, they were just ignoring her and just a few words blaming for Zach's abduction saying that she should have called people around to saying that she shouldn't have just chased after the rabbit.
At the age of ten, that's when the beating started. Now at the age of fifteen, her back, legs and arms are almost covered in bruises and scars. There were times that she wanted to take her life then but the sacrifice that her brother made for her just to escape safely from harm, makes her think otherwise. She immediately removed such thoughts from her mind for her brother's sake.
Without her knowing, tears started to fall from her eyes. She cried for the lose of her brother. Her bestfriend, her saviour and protector. Indeed if she had not gone after that darn rabbit, her brother would have been still with her.
And that's how she fell asleep again and fortunately that dream didn't visit her for the second time that night.
