Rose’s heart raced as she stepped further from her balcony, her feet moving of their own accord, drawn toward the shadowy figure standing under the flickering streetlamp. Andrew. Her mind screamed at her to stop, to turn around and run inside where it was safe, but her body refused to obey.
His presence was magnetic, like an invisible force tugging at her soul. There was something about him—something both dangerous and enticing—that made her feel like she was falling deeper into a world she didn’t understand.
“Pumpkin,” he whispered again, his voice soft, barely audible above the rustling of the wind. “I knew you’d come.”
Her breath caught in her throat as she stopped in the middle of the street, only a few feet away from him now. The air between them felt thick, charged with an electric tension that made her skin prickle. He stood there, his face partially obscured by the shadows, but his eyes—those intense, piercing eyes—locked onto hers with an unsettling intensity.
“Why… why are you doing this?” Rose asked, her voice trembling. She wasn’t sure if she was more afraid or drawn to him, and that terrified her.
Andrew took a slow step forward, closing the gap between them. “Because, Pumpkin, you’re the only one who has ever seen me. You’re the only one who’s ever truly looked.” He paused, studying her with a gaze that seemed to pierce through her. “You feel it, don’t you? The connection.”
Rose’s pulse quickened. “No, I don’t. This isn’t—this isn’t right. I don’t know you.”
He smiled, but it wasn’t a comforting smile. It was more of a knowing, almost predatory curve of his lips. “You don’t have to know me, Rose. You just have to feel it. Feel what I feel.”
She flinched as he stepped closer, the smell of him—something intoxicating, like cedarwood and cold air—filling her senses. He reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face, his touch sending an unfamiliar heat coursing through her.
“I’ve been watching you for so long, Pumpkin,” Andrew murmured, his voice low, as though confessing something secret. “I’ve been waiting for this moment. For you to understand.”
Rose’s head spun as confusion, fear, and an odd sense of longing flooded her. “I don’t understand,” she whispered, taking a step back. “Why me? Why are you doing this?”
Andrew’s smile deepened, but his eyes softened. “Because, Rose,” he said, taking another step forward, “you’re the one who sees me, even when I’m hidden. You’ve always known there was something more. And you’re the only one who can understand what’s coming next.”
Rose’s stomach twisted in knots. The words made no sense, and yet, the way he said them… it felt as if he were telling her the truth, like some part of her already knew. She had never felt this kind of pull before, this desperate need to get closer, even as every rational part of her screamed to run.
“You don’t have to be afraid,” Andrew whispered, his fingers brushing her wrist. “I’m not going to hurt you. I promise. But you have to trust me, Pumpkin. Trust me like you’ve never trusted anyone before.”
His touch lingered, sending a wave of warmth through her body, and for a moment, Rose closed her eyes. She felt something shift inside her, like a door opening in the dark. She didn’t know if she was ready to walk through it, but the temptation was too strong to resist.
“I don’t know if I can trust you,” she whispered, her voice shaky. “This is… wrong.”
Andrew’s gaze softened, and for the first time, he stepped back. “I’ll never force you, Pumpkin,” he said quietly, his voice almost tender. “But I’ll always be here. Watching. Waiting. And when you’re ready… we’ll be together. No one will stop us.”
Rose stood frozen in the street, her body caught between the magnetic pull of his presence and the fear that clawed at her chest. She didn’t know what this connection was, or why she felt so helpless to resist it. But one thing was clear—Andrew wasn’t going to let her go.
With a final, lingering look, he turned away and disappeared into the shadows, leaving Rose standing alone in the cold night air. Her heart was still pounding, her body trembling, as the chill of his absence settled around her like a cloak.
As she slowly made her way back to her house, Rose couldn’t shake the feeling that her life had just changed forever. She wasn’t sure how to make sense of what had just happened, but one thing was certain—this wasn’t over. And the thought of Andrew’s words lingered in her mind like a haunting melody:
When you’re ready… we’ll be together.
And if you are not ready we will still be together.
To be continued…
