I understand that this is your story and you have the right to write it the way you want. But I feel it’s really important to address something serious here. Taking rape lightly is never acceptable, and it can be harmful when readers start thinking it’s okay to forgive or marry a rapist just because of apologies or “love.” Many readers, especially younger or impressionable ones, might get the wrong idea if it’s not made clear that rape is a serious crime.
I strongly feel that including a disclaimer—in the story description, the first chapter, and chapter 48—would help make it clear that rape should never be normalized. Rapists should be held accountable and arrested. In no way is marrying or accepting a rapist acceptable. It’s important to show that this behavior is wrong and not something to be romanticized.
I hope you understand that this isn’t about criticizing your story itself, but about the message it sends. As a responsible reader, I think it’s important to speak out against views that could harm others or make them think sexual assault is acceptable.
