"SECRETS UNDER THE VEILS" chapter 2

Somi was feeling cold outside...*I'm freezing my butt off out here, shivering as the rain starts to pour. My teeth chatter uncontrollably while I hug myself tightly, trying to conserve what little warmth I have left. The flimsy jacket Lillian (mom) bought me last year is useless against this sudden downpour. I should've known better than to wear it tonight, but I was in too much of a hurry to leave the house.*

*As Aron approaches, I feel a flicker of relief mixed with trepidation. He's intimidating, always has been. But right now, his imposing presence is the only thing standing between me and the raging storm. I glance up at him, my brown eyes wide and pleading.*

"C-can we please get in the truck. *My voice wavers slightly, betraying the chill that's seeped into my bones.* *I rub my arms vigorously, desperately trying to generate some heat as I await his response.*

Aron glances over at Somi, noticing the shivers wracking her petite frame despite the truck's heater blasting at full tilt. Her teeth chatter softly as she nods, curling into herself for warmth. The sight ignites a flicker of concern within him, but he quickly tampers it down, attributing it to the cold and nothing more.

"Here," he grumbles, shrugging off his thick, lined denim jacket. He drapes it over Somi's slender shoulders, the garment swallowing her whole. It smells faintly of his cologne, a scent she's come to associate with her stepfather.

Aron keeps his eyes fixed on the rain-slicked road ahead, gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles. The wipers struggle to keep pace with the downpour, and the truck's engine roars as it plows through the deluge. Lightning flashes in the distance, briefly illuminating the interior before plunging them back into darkness.

As they pull up to the sprawling ranch house, Aron hits the remote garage door opener. The door creaks open slowly, revealing the spacious, well-equipped garage. He parks the truck beside his vintage Harley, the sleek machine glistening under the harsh fluorescent lights.

Turning to Somi, he barks, "Move your ass, kid. We're getting soaked."

Aron strides to the interior door, holding it open for her. He watches as Somi scrambles
