The Mark of Artemis: Hunted

The Mark of Artemis: Hunted

A Seoul Sanctuary

The morning light filtered through the delicate glass windows of "Seonyeon's Blooms," casting soft shadows across rows of meticulously arranged flowers. Lee Seonyeon moved with quiet precision, her slender fingers gently adjusting a pale pink peony, her movements as careful and deliberate as a whispered secret.

Seonyeon adjusted her soft green apron, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. At twenty-three, she was known in the neighborhood as the shy florist with an uncanny ability to make even the most wilted plants spring back to life. What most didn't know was how deeply she felt connected to each plant, how she could sense their subtle rhythms and unspoken needs.

The bell above the door chimed, announcing the arrival of her best friend. Jeongwon burst in, his camera hanging around his neck, a whirlwind of energy that contrasted sharply with Seonyeon's calm demeanor.

"Morning, flower girl!" he called out, his digital camera already raised, capturing the morning light dancing across the flower arrangements.

Seonyeon smiled softly. "Good morning, Jeongwon. Another photography expedition?"

Jeongwon nodded, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "There's this mountain range just outside Seoul. I've heard rumors of some incredible hidden landscapes. Want to join me this weekend?"

Normally, Seonyeon would hesitate. She preferred the safety of her shop, the predictable rhythm of arranging flowers and caring for plants. But something in Jeongwon's invitation felt different—like a gentle nudge towards something unknown.

"Okay," she heard herself say, surprising even herself.

Little did she know that this spontaneous decision would change everything.

The week passed in a blur of flower arrangements and quiet preparations. Seonyeon carefully selected comfortable hiking clothes, her usual reserved nature battling with a strange sense of anticipation. Jeongwon's excitement was infectious, and for the first time in years, she felt a spark of adventure flickering within her.

The mountain trail was unlike anything Seonyeon had experienced. Lush greenery surrounded them, ancient trees creating a canopy that filtered sunlight into magical patterns. Jeongwon moved ahead, capturing images of moss-covered rocks and delicate wildflowers, while Seonyeon followed, her connection to nature humming like a quiet melody.

It was in a small, unexpected clearing that everything changed.

The space seemed to shimmer, the air growing thick with an energy that made the hair on Seonyeon's arms stand up. Jeongwon's camera suddenly flickered, digital images distorting into a holographic projection that took the form of a woman—no, a goddess.

Artemis stood before them, her form both solid and translucent, radiating an ancient power that seemed to pulse with the very heartbeat of the forest. Her eyes, silver and penetrating, locked directly onto Seonyeon.

"You," the goddess spoke, her voice resonating with both command and compassion, "are the vessel I have chosen."

Jeongwon stood frozen, his camera hanging limply from his hand. Seonyeon felt a strange warmth spreading through her body, like roots extending from her core into the earth beneath her feet.

In that moment, something fundamental shifted. Seonyeon felt her perception expanding—she could suddenly understand the language of plants around her, sense the intricate digital networks pulsing beneath the earth, feel the delicate balance between technology and nature.

As Artemis's projection began to fade, her final words hung in the air: "Balance. Protection. You are the guardian."

When the holographic image disappeared, Seonyeon looked down. Her hands were glowing with a soft green light, and the nearby plants seemed to lean towards her, responding to an unspoken connection.

Jeongwon broke the silence. "Did... did that just happen?"

Seonyeon couldn't answer. Her world had just transformed, and she knew nothing would ever be the same again.
