Episode 5

I headed to the airport, I was going to leave the country. I had nothing left here holding me back, my friend was never my friend. My beloved, never loved me. I also don't have a job here, since I resigned.

Thanks to my father's help, he managed to get me a job as an assistant to one of his close friends, but I had to travel to the United States. So, what does it matter?

I boarded the plane and left to start a new life. Away from the pain, lies, and betrayals. Despite the pain, I'm taking something valuable with me; I'm taking the fruit of my love.

"What the hell do you mean she resigned?! Why didn't you stop her, James?!" I spat out furiously, he looked at me expressionlessly and replied calmly. "Why would I do something like that? Evangeline has suffered a lot recently, the last thing I want is to prolong her pain."

I wanted to hit him, my wife had run away and this guy was acting like nothing had happened? Imbecile.

"Why do you care so much?" James continued. "You cheated on her in her own face, you asked her for a divorce and she gave it to you. Now you're upset because she resigned? Stop being a damn son of a bitch, Daven!" He spat out furiously.

I was going to answer, but Caleb spoke.

"Yeah, man, why so upset? The love of your life is back, you've already found out why she left. You should be at home screwing her, not wasting time with a harpy like Evangeline." It irritated me to hear him talk about her like that, Evangeline was not a harpy, still, I didn't defend her.

I looked at my phone, hoping that maybe, just maybe; Evangeline had left me a message, but there was nothing from her.

Only countless messages from Marizza and photos of her being naked.

I turned off my phone and leaned back in my seat; thinking about everything that had happened.

I knew that Evangeline had always been in love with me, but I never imagined that she had paid to have Marizza detained on the wedding day. Thinking about that irritated me, but my rational side kicked in.

If Evangeline paid to have Marizza detained and not arrive at the wedding... Then, why did she return after two years and not as soon as she was released?

I had many unanswered questions, I was trying to find closure to everything but I didn't know how. I remembered how I treated Evangeline at my parents' house, how I kissed Marizza in front of her, I couldn't help but feel like a complete scoundrel. Because, despite everything, she was still my wife, now I became an unfaithful son of a bitch.

That day replays over and over in my mind, Evangeline wanted to explain but I didn't want to listen. The rage I felt was very great.

That day, before telling Evangeline about the dinner, I was working when Marizza came crying into my office, asking for forgiveness. And next to her, was Blake.

"What's wrong?" I asked and Marizza sobbed even more. "Your brother has to tell you something!" She spat out and my eyes went to Blake, who held my gaze, as if he was challenging me.

"On your wedding day, Marizza didn't arrive because Evangeline paid some guys to detain her." I felt as if lightning had struck me when I heard such a revelation, I narrowed my eyes. "Where is the proof?"

"The guys who kidnapped me that day are here to talk to you!" Marizza intervened and, certainly, there were guys there, who began to say that Evangeline had paid them two years ago to detain Marizza.

"I never wanted to leave you stranded, my love. It was Evangeline's fault, she wanted to take my place because she was obsessed with you!" She shouted through tears, while leaning on my chest. I moved her away instantly, but I couldn't help but have doubts about those confessions.

I left my office and started driving to my parents' house, wondering who I should believe. When I arrived, very casually Blake and Marizza arrived behind me, she clung to my arm and, as soon as my eyes saw Evangeline's, I felt rage.

I didn't care if it was true or not, but now I had doubts. My chest hurt and I wanted to make her feel the same pain that I was feeling.

When I said all those cruel things, my heart ached and the voice in my head told me to stop. Seeing her face full of tears, caused a great knot in my throat, still, I continued.

And as if I was being controlled by a greater force, I leaned towards Marizza, kissing her. She gladly agreed, her lips, her taste, her presence. Everything brought me back to the past; to when she was mine.

I melted into the kiss, touching every part of her body, I didn't want it to end. When I separated, I was panting with desire and I just wanted to make love to her here and now. My eyes searched for Evangeline's and seeing her empty eyes, I felt as if I had been punched in the stomach.

I watched as she signed the divorce document and left, leaving me with Marizza.

She tried to kiss me again but I pushed her away, I got into my car and went to James's house. I needed to think, I thought Evangeline was going to call me, try to make me change my mind; but she didn't.

When I saw her enter the courthouse, I felt an enormous pressure in my chest. As if something was telling me that I was about to make the worst mistake of my life.

And when the judge said that she didn't want anything of mine, I couldn't stand it, I got up and wanted to approach but the guards stopped me.

When leaving the place, I tried to talk to her but I was interrupted when Marizza threw herself into my arms, kissing me.

I looked at Evangeline, but she got into the car and left.

I arrived at the company that day and there I found James, who was holding a resignation letter.

"You got what you wanted, she's gone." He handed me the envelope and left.
