When Ember uttered the ominous words, "Viktor's a living devil," Aria was taken aback, her gaze frozen on Ember's eyes, unblinking and unwavering. Ember continued, her voice measured, "Would you like to know more about Viktor, as I've been privy to certain information, courtesy of his uncle, who appointed me to keep a watchful eye over him? While I don't know everything, I'm aware of many things that might prove helpful to you." Aria's response was laced with incredulity: "You're spying on him?" Ember's knowing glance preceded her affirmation, "Yes, but he's aware of it." With an air of quiet confidence, she added, "I can share my knowledge with you; it might just help you navigate these next two years with greater ease." Aria's retort was swift and resolute: "I refuse to indulge in information about someone who shows such blatant disregard and disrespect for others. And since it's only a matter of two years, I'd rather not lay eyes on him again – not even his shadow." As she spoke, her gaze drifted toward the window, lost in thought. Ember, sensing that Aria's emotional state was still fragile, opted not to press the issue, instead choosing to look ahead, her expression a mask of quiet understanding.
As the car came to a halt in front of a modest apartment, Aria swiftly exited the vehicle and hastened toward the gate, rapping on it insistently as she called out, "Aries, it's me! Open the gate, Aries!" The gate swung open, but to her surprise, it wasn't her brother who stood before her. Instead, a man she instinctively recognized as one of Viktor's associates gazed back at her, prompting a cold, wary glance from Aria as she brushed past him and rushed inside. Her anxiety dissipated momentarily as she spotted her brother reclining on the bed, a sight that filled her with relief. She hastened to his side, planting a tender kiss on his forehead. "Thank God you're safe," she breathed, her voice trembling with emotion. Aries attempted to sit up, but Aria gently restrained him, cautioning, "No, just rest. You're injured." He reassured her with a smile, "I'm fine, just some minor injuries – nothing to worry about. But the real news is that I'm going to Harvard. Can you believe it?" Aria settled beside him, her expression radiant with joy. "I'm thrilled for you," she said, her gaze wandering around the room as she noticed the packed bags and belongings. "Why the packed bags?" she asked, curiosity getting the better of her. "I'm leaving for Harvard, that's why," Aries replied matter-of-factly. "But you can't leave yet – you still have to finish high school," Aria protested, only to be met with a knowing look from her brother. "They've arranged for me to complete my schooling there and prepare for Harvard," he explained. Aria's mind reeled as she grasped the implications of Viktor's swift actions. "Okay, take care of yourself," she urged, her voice tinged with a mix of emotions. As she hugged her brother tightly, Aries whispered, "Don't worry about me, sis. Just take care of yourself and show him what you're made of – whoever he is." With a final goodbye, Aria reluctantly parted from her brother, leaving him to his new journey as she embarked on her own uncertain path.
Viktor stood before his uncle, a man of discerning taste and calculating gaze. "Uncle, as you instructed, I've married a girl with no discernible family background or corrupt records. Now, I believe it's time for you to uphold your end of the bargain." His uncle's voice was laced with a mature, icy detachment. "While this is indeed welcome news, Viktor, have you given any thought to how you'll address the reporters regarding your sudden nuptials?" Viktor's gaze locked onto his uncle's, his eyes flashing with confidence. "I've already anticipated the consequences of my actions, Uncle. I'll handle the media. You focus on finalizing the contract." A sly smirk spread across his uncle's face. "You truly are my protégé, Viktor. Now, it's time for us to demonstrate our prowess to the opposition." Viktor's expression mirrored his uncle's, and together, they raised their glasses in a toast to their impending success. However, their celebration was short-lived, as a man approached Viktor, phone in hand. "Sir, I apologize for the interruption, but you have a call." Viktor accepted the phone, his expression darkening as he listened to the voice on the other end – Embika. As the call drew to a close, Viktor excused himself from his uncle and hastily made his way to his car, his mind racing with the implications of the conversation.
As Viktor arrived at his mansion and stepped out of his car, a flustered servant rushed to his side, gasping for breath. "Sir, we've tried everything to restrain Madam, but she's become utterly unmanageable. First, she refused to eat, and now, when we asked her to sign the contract..." The servant's words trailed off as Embika emerged from the background, her poised demeanor commanding attention. With an air of refined elegance, she addressed Viktor, "I must admit, even I'm astonished that you, Viktor, the man who's always been steadfast in his word, has broken his promise." Viktor's expression remained impassive, betraying no hint of emotion or intention to interrupt her. "You speak as if you've never known me," he said, his tone detached. "Step aside, I'll attend to the lady." However, Embika swiftly countered, her voice laced with urgency, "Don't go! She's acquired a gun from your guards and is now shooting indiscriminately, putting everyone at risk. If she gets the chance, she'll kill you without hesitation." Viktor's lips curled into a smirk, his eyes glinting with intrigue. "How fascinating," he murmured, disregarding Embika's warning as he strode into the mansion.
As the grand gates of the mansion swung open, a bullet whizzed past Viktor's ear, and he turned to behold Aria, her eyes blazing with a fierce intensity, shooting indiscriminately like a woman possessed. The servants and guards cowered in fear, scrambling for cover beneath tables or fleeing in terror. The once-opulent mansion now lay in shambles, its exquisite glassware shattered, and its elegant furnishings reduced to chaos. Viktor's voice boomed through the mayhem, "Stop it!" Aria, her back initially turned to Viktor, slowly pivoted to face him, her entire body trembling violently, as if the very act of firing the gun had unleashed a torrent of pent-up emotions within her.
Summoning a surge of strength and determination, Aria declared, "I'll kill you today, Viktor Carnifex!" She stood resolute, her gun trained on Viktor, who showed no signs of fear or hesitation. Instead, he began to walk towards her, his eyes locked on hers. Aria's hands trembled, her legs shook, and her eyes betrayed a fierce desire to pull the trigger. Yet, her body seemed to betray her intentions. As Viktor drew closer, the gun pressed against his chest, Aria's anxiety and fear intensified. "What's wrong, Aria Morano?" Viktor taunted, his voice low and menacing. "Aren't you going to kill me?" Aria's finger twitched, but the gun was empty, the click of the trigger a hollow reminder of her failure. Viktor seized her wrists, pulling her close as he bent to whisper in her ear, "No one can kill me without my permission, Aria." Aria's face flamed with anger, but her eyes grew heavy, her vision blurring as the world spun around her. Darkness closed in, and she slumped into unconsciousness. Viktor swiftly scooped her up, cradling her in his arms like a bride, and ascended the stairs.
Viktor entered a lavishly appointed room and gently laid Aria on the bed, her slender form sinking into the plush mattress. He summoned Embika, who arrived promptly, her eyes fixed on Aria's tranquil face. Viktor issued his instructions, his voice firm and authoritative. "It's your responsibility to ensure her well-being, Embika. Remember, no one leaves my custody. She's not to escape, under any circumstances." Embika nodded silently, her expression a mask of obedience. Viktor continued, "I'll send a doctor to examine her, and see that she's changed into something more comfortable." Embika's nods grew more frequent, her eyes never leaving Viktor's face as he spoke. Finally, Viktor's gaze drifted to Aria, and for a fleeting moment, his expression softened. Then, he turned and exited the room, leaving Embika to attend to Aria. Embika's hand instinctively went to Aria's forehead, her touch gentle. "Oh, poor child," she whispered, her voice tinged with compassion. "I pity you, but I must admit, I'm surprised Viktor chose this room for you. It's...unexpected."
After a brief interval, the family doctor, Dr. Kael, arrived in the room. Embika rose from her seat, greeting him with a courteous smile. "Please, come in, Dr. Kael." The doctor approached Aria, conducting a thorough examination before pronouncing, "There's nothing to worry about; she's merely unconscious. I'll prescribe some medication to ensure her swift recovery. Please administer these tablets three times a day, after her meals." As Dr. Kael stood up, Embika accepted the medication from him and escorted him out of the room. "It's rare to see any woman near Viktor, except for her," Dr. Kael remarked, his tone laced with curiosity. Embika's response was succinct. "It was simply a circumstance." With that, Dr. Kael took his leave. Embika returned to the room, placing comfortable clothing beside Aria and positioning the medication on the bedside table. Her gaze drifted toward the window as she mused, "I never imagined he would assign this room to a girl he's only just met."
