Ep 01

Jisung considered himself a lucky young man. He was in his second year of music composition at his dream university, had good friends who had accompanied him throughout his life, a loving family that always made the effort to communicate with him, and a girlfriend he had been with for several months. At just turned 19, Jisung felt happy, and he truly was. However, that happiness began to fade when his beloved girlfriend, Park YooRa, took his arm without her characteristic smile and with an unusual glint in her eyes.

—Sung —she said, dragging him towards the stairs, where no one was around—. We need to talk.

If anyone had asked Jisung, that phrase had never brought worse foreboding than it did at that moment, especially due to YooRa's serious tone.

—Sure, Yoo —Jisung replied, trying to take her hand, but she pulled it away and placed them behind her back. Jisung’s heart broke a little—. What’s going on? —he asked, trying hard not to look away from his girlfriend.

—I need us to take a break —she said calmly and seriously.

Jisung couldn’t comprehend it.

—A break? —he repeated.

—Yes, Sung, a break in the relationship.

—But... why? —he started to feel nervous, unable to fathom that YooRa wanted to end things. They were happy, right?

—It’s not you, it’s-

—Yoo, please —Jisung interrupted, feeling his heart shatter into a thousand pieces—. Don’t give me that excuse, be honest. We’ve always played with the truth.

She sighed.

—Alright, Jisung —and when she called him by his full name, he knew things weren’t well—. Do you want me to be honest?

He nodded.

—I want us to break up.

Jisung couldn’t say he expected it; that would be the biggest lie of his life. Even though they had only been together for seven months, Jisung had been immensely happy with YooRa and thought everything was fine, as their conflicts were limited to typical couple arguments, and there was no one else involved, at least from his perspective.

—Break up? —his voice trembled.

—I don’t want to hurt you anymore, because I’ve found someone else. —Although YooRa tried to smile in an attempt to comfort him, it felt like a kick in the stomach. Jisung could only nod, unwilling to fully process it.

—I’m sorry, Jisung —she said, releasing his hand—. Take care, okay?

And with those words, YooRa left, tying her hair into a ponytail with a calmness that was unsettling for Jisung, who remained leaning against the stairway wall, eyes glazed and on the verge of tears, missing half of his classical music class. Jisung felt his heart broken and, unable to help it, smiled as he sat on the floor and began to cry silently.

When he left his last class of the day, Jisung ran into Jeongin, who noticed his downcast state and the absence of his girlfriend during breaks, although he didn’t dare to ask. He knew well how Jisung was with his feelings and didn’t want to risk receiving a punch in the eye for caring about him.

They had planned to have lunch with Seungmin that day, and Jisung decided that he couldn’t be too bad trying to cheer himself up with his friends, so he didn’t cancel and showed up with Jeongin at a bar half an hour later. However, next to Seungmin was another guy with light brown hair staring at his phone while his red-haired friend told him something that apparently didn’t interest him.

Jeongin greeted enthusiastically, and Jisung sat down across from the brown-haired guy, pushed by his friend. Just then, the stranger looked up from his phone and began observing Jisung, who was trying to adjust his glasses while attempting to follow the conversation between Seungmin and Jeongin, though with little success.

—I’m Minho —the brown-haired guy suddenly said, addressing only Jisung, as his friend was still talking to Seungmin. It was then that Jisung took a better look at the guy in front of him, analysing his features and expressions.

—I’m Jisung —he replied, readjusting his glasses once more.

Minho flashed a slight smile and went back to looking at his phone after observing Jisung for a moment longer.
