Sakura Eclipse: The Spirit Rebellion
Chapter 1: The Crimson Night
Neo-Kyoto never slept. The city was alive with neon lights, towering buildings, and the constant hum of voices. The streets were wet from the evening rain, reflecting the glow of holographic signs. Cherry blossoms floated through the air, caught in the wind as if dancing between the shadows of the past and the future.
Hana pulled up the hood of her jacket, keeping her head down as she walked through the busy streets. Her heart pounded, not from fear but from something she couldn’t explain. Tonight felt different. The usual noise of vendors and music seemed distant, almost muffled. And then there was the message.
Come to the old temple. Midnight. No questions.
Hana didn’t know who sent it, but something inside told her she had to go. Her fingers brushed the silver pendant around her neck. It was the only thing she had left from her mother—a reminder of a past she barely remembered. A past that felt just out of reach.
She turned into a narrow alley, her boots splashing in puddles. The further she walked, the quieter it became. The bright lights of the city faded behind her, swallowed by the darkness. Only the sound of her own footsteps remained.
By the time she reached the outskirts of the city, the air had changed. It felt thicker, charged with something unseen. The old temple stood hidden behind a wall of ancient sakura trees, their petals falling like snow. The full moon above was no longer white—it was deep red. The eclipse had begun.
Hana hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward. Her pulse quickened.
A voice, soft like the wind, whispered from the shadows. “You came.”
Hana’s body tensed. She reached for the small dagger hidden in her sleeve and turned toward the voice. A figure emerged from the darkness, his face half-covered by a fox mask. His golden eyes gleamed under the crimson moonlight.
“Who are you?” Hana asked, keeping her stance firm.
The stranger tilted his head slightly. “The real question is… who are you?”
Before Hana could respond, the ground trembled beneath her feet. A gust of wind rushed through the temple ruins, sending cherry blossoms flying. The air crackled with unseen energy, and a strange, ancient force stirred around them.
The pendant around Hana’s neck grew warm. She clutched it instinctively, a wave of unfamiliar memories flashing through her mind—memories she didn’t recognize. A temple engulfed in flames. A figure calling her name. A fox with glowing eyes staring into her soul.
She gasped and stumbled back, but the masked stranger didn’t move. His eyes were fixed on her, watching, waiting.
“You feel it, don’t you?” he said, his voice calm yet firm. “The power waking inside you.”
Hana shook her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The ground shook again, harder this time. Cracks formed beneath her feet, glowing with an eerie light. Something was rising from beneath the temple ruins, something old and powerful.
The stranger stepped closer. “You’ve been running from the truth your whole life, Hana. But you can’t run anymore.”
The wind howled, carrying voices—whispers in a language she didn’t understand. The red moon above cast long shadows over the temple grounds, and Hana suddenly felt like she was standing between two worlds. The past and the present. The human and the divine.
Her heart pounded. Her mind screamed at her to run, but her body refused to move.
Then, the temple doors burst open, and everything changed.
A wave of energy exploded outward, knocking Hana off her feet. She hit the ground hard, gasping as pain shot through her side. The pendant around her neck pulsed like a heartbeat, and when she looked up, she saw something impossible.
A massive fox, its fur glowing like fire, stood before her. Its golden eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, time seemed to freeze.
Hana couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t think. She could only stare as the fox spirit lowered its head and spoke in a voice that echoed through her soul.
“It’s time to wake up.”
And then, everything went black.
