Rays Through Her Shadows

As the night descended, a new beauty graced the world. The commotion had ceased, and an eerie hush enveloped everything.

"Meow"

The silence was palpable until the sound broke through. I rose from the floor and approached the half-closed window.

It had to be here still! I flung the window open, and the cold wind hit my face. I looked down—and there it was!

"Meow"

Those sparkling blue eyes met mine. I carefully climbed out of the window. The blue eyes followed my every move.

I crouched in the snow, mimicking a white kitten. The blue eyes seemed frightened. I gently scooped up the kitten and cradled it in my arms. It trembled slightly.

I sat there, holding the kitten. Gradually, it calmed down and started purring as I stroked its snow-like fur.

“Prrr”

“Prrrr”

I chuckled. The kitten was so cute and warm.

“Hey, what’s your name, kitten?”

I asked. Those little eyes gazed up at me, looking so innocent.

“Then I'll call you Snowy.”

I sat there for a few hours with the kitten. Soon, I noticed someone approaching—a boy, slightly older than me.

“Hey, is that cat yours?”

He asked. He seemed kind.

“Um, no, I found it here,” I replied.

“Oh, that’s my kitten.”

He said, and I felt a pang of longing for the kitten. Perhaps I wanted to keep it, but I couldn’t.

I stood up, still holding the kitten.

“Here you go.”

I said, offering the kitten to him. He took it gently, as if it were a delicate glass vase.

“Thank you.”

He said. I nodded with a smile.

“What’s its name?” I asked.

“Snowy.”

He replied.

Snowy? The name I gave it? What a coincidence.

“It’s a nice name,” I replied.

“Then we’ll be off.”

He said. I nodded, but a part of me didn’t want him to leave.

He turned to go but looked back at me.

“What’s your name?”

His soft voice asked.

"My name is Xiu Ying," I stuttered.

"Nice to meet you little princess, I am Li Ayun. " His said.

"Nice to meet you too..." urgh, stop stuttering!

"Then we'll go, Snowy haven't eaten yet, he must be hungry" He said.

"O-okay" No it's not okay, i don't want you to leave! Stay!!

He smiled, His smile is so warm, so bright. And then he waved to me and left with the little kitten, and then again, I was left alone...

I tossed and turned on the bed, shifting restlessly as the weight of unease settled over me. The sheets felt unfamiliar, the silence too loud, and sleep remained just out of reach—teasing, elusive, like a dream I couldn’t step into.

Why am I thinking about him again? He must have forgotten about me a long ago. I wish he still remember me, at least as a passerby...

I closed my eyes, finally sleep claimed me.
