Episode 01: The First Arrow
[Scene opens]
A barren, destroyed city.
A man with short white hair and piercing purple eyes walks alone, his black attire flowing in the wind.
Alvetis (thinking aloud):
"The SOS signal should be somewhere around here... but it's strangely quiet."
Suddenly, loud footsteps echo through the empty streets.
From a nearby alley, shadowy hound-like creatures with gaping fangs rush toward him.
Alvetis (irritated):
"Worthless creatures... Don't waste my time."
He pulls out a sleek mechanical bow.
As he draws the string, multiple purple energy arrows materialize.
In one fluid motion, he fires — the arrows cutting through the air at incredible speed, each striking a hound cleanly through the head.
The beasts collapse.
Without turning, Alvetis senses a presence behind him.
Alvetis:
"Here I thought you all were long gone."
A woman approaches — long black hair, sharp red eyes, a sword gleaming in her hand.
Woman:
"I'm Viela, Gray Talon Squad. We were waiting for you, First Class Investigator Alvetis."
Alvetis locks eyes with her, his expression unreadable.
Alvetis:
"What's the situation?"
As they walk, Viela quickly explains.
Viela:
"We were gathering resources and samples in the city. Two of my teammates are still hiding — one's heavily injured."
Alvetis raises an eyebrow.
Alvetis:
"Two? What about your captain?"
Viela sighs, her grip tightening on her sword.
Viela:
"Dead. He shot himself."
Alvetis’s expression darkens.
He knows — in this cruel world, suicide isn't rare when overwhelmed by the Phantoms.
But abandoning your team? That was another level of disgrace.
As they continue deeper into the ruins, Alvetis frowns.
Alvetis (muttering):
"Too quiet... much too quiet."
Viela:
"The Phantoms here are acting strangely — coordinated. They overwhelmed us."
Alvetis thinks back to the earlier hounds — something wasn’t right. No larger beasts followed them.
Alvetis (grimly):
"An Overlord-class Phantom...
We need to move. Fast."
Viela:
"Understood."
[Elsewhere in the city]
Two other Gray Talon members.
A white-haired girl in a torn uniform sits against a wall, struggling to stay conscious.
A blond-haired boy stands in front of her, gun blazing, fending off incoming Phantom hounds.
White-haired Girl (weakly):
"Leave me... I’m overclocking. I can't use Eclipse anymore..."
Blond Boy (gritting his teeth):
"Just let me handle this!"
Among the pack, a monstrous Phantom towers over the rest — red eyes gleaming.
It grabs a smaller hound and hurls it at the boy like a projectile.
The boy, distracted, is knocked off his feet by the impact.
The massive Phantom charges — claws ready to strike.
Before it can land the blow — a blur of movement.
Viela leaps in, sword flashing.
She swings, but the Phantom reacts fast, blocking with its massive claw.
A brutal clash erupts — blade against claw, sparks flying.
Viela channels red energy into her sword.
As the Phantom sends a horizontal slash her way, Viela leaps into the air and unleashes a massive red energy wave, severing the Phantom.
Voice (shouting):
"Move!"
It's Alvetis.
Viela instinctively jumps back — just in time, as a pack of hounds rushes toward her.
From behind, Alvetis unleashes a barrage of purple energy arrows, cutting down the attackers.
Then he fires one glowing arrow into the sky — it bursts into a rain of sharp energy spears, annihilating the remaining Phantoms.
[After the battle]
Viela (running up):
"Are you two alright, Iris, Caros?"
The boy — Caros — replies, panting.
Caros:
"Just barely... Both of us are already overclocking. If you hadn’t come, we’d be dead."
The girl — Iris — struggles to her feet.
Iris:
"Who... who’s the one that helped us?"
Viela:
"First Class Investigator Alvetis. He’s our rescue."
Alvetis approaches them.
Viela:
"No need for formality. As per protocol, I take command from here."
Iris (saluting):
"Understood, Captain."
Caros (grumbling):
"Captain, huh... hope he’s not like our last one."
Viela immediately raises her sword toward Caros — the warning clear in her eyes.
Viela:
"Careful. Insulting a superior can lead to... unfortunate consequences. I'm only saying this for your own good."
Caros sighs, lowering his gaze.
Caros:
"Apologies. My emotions got the better of me."
Alvetis (calmly):
"Apology accepted... not that it matters. We Sinners are just living weapons, after all."
Alvetis:
"Two exhausted members and one injured...
This isn't ideal. We're leaving immediately."
Iris:
"Agreed. Pushing further would be suicide."
[As they move]
The ruins were calm — too calm — unsettling Alvetis’s instincts.
Iris:
"The rendezvous point with the support unit should be around here."
Viela:
"Hope they really arrive..."
Alvetis stops in front of an abandoned store.
Alvetis:
"I'll keep watch outside. You three, get inside."
Viela:
"Understood."
As Alvetis keeps his guard up, the three of them explore the dusty store.
Among the broken concrete and debris, Viela’s gaze lingers on something.
Iris notices and walks over, picking up two dirty, studded animal dolls.
Iris:
"Seems like you’ve got quite the eyes."
Realizing Iris had caught her, Viela scoffs.
Viela:
"I have no need for them."
Iris extends one of the dolls — a white bunny — while she holds onto a black cat doll.
Iris:
"A gift from a friend. How about that?"
Viela hesitates, then reluctantly takes the bunny doll, looking at it with a strangely sweet expression.
Iris just smiles at her.
Meanwhile, Caros fiddles with the radio.
Caros:
"It's no use — the signal’s jammed."
Suddenly, all three sense a suffocating pressure.
Through the shattered window, they spot Alvetis still standing outside — looking up.
Alvetis:
"Don't come out.
That’s an order."
The Gray Talon members freeze, obeying instinctively.
Outside, Alvetis draws his bow, purple energy gathering.
Alvetis:
"None of my members are ready to fight yet...
What an unfortunate circumstance to face an Overlord-class."
Above, on a crumbling three-story building —
A monstrous Phantom appears.
It resembles a giant white wolf, black spikes jutting from its back, shadowy black eyes locked onto Alvetis.
Its massive jaws split open, as if laughing at him.
Alvetis releases his first arrow.
