CH 4: gods Just Won't Leave Me Alone

Once everyone left the room, the earnest expression on my face disappeared. In its place was a serious look no ten-year-old should ever have.

Alright… time to check something.

“What’s the current percentage of my god-level archery talent?” I asked silently in my mind, expecting the mechanical voice.

After a short delay, the cold, emotionless tone finally answered:

> “Current: 21%. Increase body capability to 40% within 364 days, or else talent will be lost.”

“…Lose it? Are you serious?” I muttered in disbelief.

I rubbed my temples, deep in thought. “Okay, voice—what are you exactly? A system? A cheat guide? Aren’t you supposed to give me something? Like… I don’t know… a supreme manual or a reborn package gift?”

The bland silence lingered. Then—

A new voice echoed in my head. Unlike the mechanical one, this voice was vibrant, overflowing with life.

> “The Dragon God has taken a liking to you. Awarded: Dragon Qi Rotation Body Technique.”

“The Night Goddess Nyx has taken a liking to you. Awarded: Night Physique (activates at age 15). Awarded skill: Death Eye — double accuracy, 15% activation chance.”

“…Huh?” I blinked. “Wait, wait, wait—Dragon God technique? Night Physique? Death Eye skill? Why are these gods looking at me? Dammit, take back your skills! I don’t want responsibility!”

And just as I finished screaming internally—

> “Loki, God of Mischief, takes a liking to your reckless character. Awarded: Keen Eyes and a God Mask that hides your energy, negates truth-searching skills, and automatically activates at night.”

“…Why night?!” I groaned. “Wait—doesn’t this mask just help me lie? Tsk. God of Mischief indeed. Still… useful. But seriously—why are gods just throwing blessings at me like freebies? This has to be a scheme…”

With a deep breath, I straightened my thoughts. Alright. If that’s the case, then from now on, I must stay peaceful. Calm. Non-violent. A pure advocate of peace.

---

The next day, I was moving better thanks to the Dragon Qi technique. “Good. I should be able to take Big Sis to the underground stream today.”

Just as I was stretching, the door slammed open.

“Brother, you can stand?! Are you better now?”

Anelle rushed in. I nearly stumbled from the shock.

“Little girl, don’t barge into a boy’s room! What if I was naked?” I scolded with the air of a righteous sage.

“But… Brother, Mom bathed us together last time…”

Her innocent words hit me like a meteor. In an instant, a memory resurfaced—soft peaks pressed against my back.

…No. Stop. Bad brain.

“Brother, your nose is bleeding again…”

Sure enough, blood was dripping freely. I wiped at it in a panic just as Elle walked in. My gaze—tragically—landed on her peaks. My fragile, innocent mind betrayed me.

---

A few moments later…

“Ugh… my head… Where am I?”

I sat up from the rough bed. My vision cleared, and I saw Elle, Brielle, and Anelle all staring at me.

Panicked, I touched my face. Something metallic.

“Brother, what’s that on your face?” Anelle asked curiously.

My blood ran cold. Oh crap—it’s night. The God Mask activated on its own.

Before I could think of an excuse, Elle’s calm voice cut through.

“Daemon… were you blessed by a god?”

“Eh?!”

Brielle’s eyes lit up. “Yes, Mother! That’s what it looks like. I’ve read about it—some of the royal dark elves with the purest bloodlines occasionally receive blessings. But I never imagined he would…! That mask, though—what does it do?”

Stunned, I whispered in my head: Wait… I thought this was part of my reborn package, not some common event in this world.

> “The gods laugh at your foolish thoughts.”

The mechanical voice chimed in coldly.

“…Can you not?” I muttered.

Brielle leaned closer, her hand gripping my shoulder, urging me to answer.

“Oh, this? Well, I was… gifted this God Mask. It, uh, permanently stays on my face. Can’t be removed. And also—something called Keen Eyes.”

Silence.

Too much silence.

I looked up. Elle was frozen in shock. Brielle’s mouth was open in an “O.”

“…What? Did I say something wrong?”

“Daemon,” Elle said slowly, her eyes wide, “in the entire history of the dark elves, only three people have ever received blessings from more than one god. And you… You’ve been given two blessings. And worse…”

Brielle sighed dramatically. “Keen Eyes. The best ability for an archer. It increases your eyesight by 50%. Shame it wasn’t Keen Sense though.”

She looked at me with genuine pity, as if I’d missed out on something great.

Meanwhile, inside my head I was screaming: Do I tell them about the rest of my blessings? No. No way. That’ll ruin my perfect lowkey MC act. I must stay humble. I must stay moblike. Just like my idol… Cid Kagenou. Yes. Yes. Mob life is best. I already have a mask—perfect for a secret persona identity.

A smug smile crept onto my face as I imagined it.

Smack!

Brielle’s hand landed on my head, her eyes narrowing. Her expression said: What weird nonsense are you plotting now?

Shocked at how easily she pierced through my mental schemes, I instantly switched to my mobfu act: the wide-eyed, innocent weakling.

“O-oh, right! Big Sis—I think I can take you to the underground stream now. With Keen Eyes, I should be able to find it!”

The subject change worked perfectly.

“Really, Brother?!” Anelle’s eyes sparkled like twin blue stars. “That means I can bathe anytime I want?”

She jumped on me, clutching my hand tightly.

I couldn’t resist patting her head gently. Yes. Bucket list achievement unlocked: patting a little loli’s head.

For once, I felt victorious.
