UNBELIEVABLE SHIVERS

Billie's world froze,

The cold now forgotten, even the shivering of her toes.

She looked at him in shock,

Figuring out if he was on crack.

But Jack was dead serious,

Not fazed by how bizarre his words was.

Billie: (*shook, confused*)

"Wha-?"

(*pause*)

Billie: (*slightly mad*)

"This isn't funny."

Jack: (*sigh*) (*sad*)

"I'm serious, Billie. It's me."

Billie, now engulfed with multiple emotions ,

Anger, above all, for this might just be one of his mean motions.

The rain cleared, though clouds block the sky ,

But it was good enough to tell him goodbye.

Jack, now panicked ,

He needs to make a move, quick.

But how, this was almost impossible ,

With a sigh, he began to stumble.

Jack: (*stutters*)

"L-Look , I know I sound psycho. But - I - I don't know how to say it in a way that it would sound sane. "

Jack pauses as Billie clenches her jaw,

Obviously insulted of his words' flaws.

In a swift motion,

Billie stands upright.

Having enough of today's commotion,

She stares at Jack with glaring eyes.

Billie: (*stoic*) (*clipped*)

"Okay. You're crazy. Thanks for the jacket, I'll get it cleaned "

(*looks at the sky*)

"Look, it's getting dark so I'll just take my leave."

As Billie began to leave,

Jack bolts to grab her hand.

With all determination he can heave,

He connects their gazes to prove he's adamant.

Jack: (*determined*)

" Billie button, it's really me. If you don't believe me, I'll prove it. Meet me tomorrow at your favorite place in school. After class, I'll see you by the door. "

Billie retracts her hand,

As if it burned to touch.

Who is he to dare command,

Acting as though they've been friends beforehand.

And with that, Billie left ,

A heavy burden clogging her chest.

Thinking about what the boy had said ,

Not knowing anything about what lies ahead.

As she got home where her parents await,

She plastered a smile for her parents to take.

They flood her of questions,

'What happened?' , 'Are you alright?' - you know how parents go .

Billie answered patiently, knowing not to mention ,

Of one particular location.

Billie: (*with a smile*)

"I got caught up in a book and didn't notice the time. It poured and I forgot my umbrella."

With gentle care,

They ask her to take a warm bath.

Her mother helped dry her hair,

Father even made warm dishes for dinner chat.

But amidst all these,

Her parents share a knowing look.

For now this is all they can do for their little miss,

But they'll be ready once she leaves her secret nook.

As Billie wait for the jacket in the dryer,

Her mind in a haze, she can't help but wonder.

Now that she's at home in peace, all calm ,

She realizes how Jack was awfully around her like a stuck gum.

'Unusual indeed' , her mind blurts ,

Maybe truth can be found in his words?

Her mind snapped back as the dryer sung,

Jacket dried, Billie bits her tongue.

'One chance' , Billie thought aloud ,

'What would he even talk about?'

The day ends, Billie now asleep ,

Whilst Jack is having trouble waiting for the midnight tick.
