Sorry for not updating sooner, everyone. I wanted to let you all know what’s been happening on my end, especially since I’ve suddenly gone quiet. I was in the middle of exams, which already had me stressed and stretched for time, but then things took an unexpected turn. Last night, Cyclone Fina hit our area, and it was honestly rough. The storm came in fast and hard, and even now it’s still hard to believe just how much changed overnight.
Because of the cyclone, our power went out. At the moment, the only electricity we have is a single working power point and the lights in the kitchen. Everything else is off, which means we can’t really function normally at home. No phone charging unless we ration it carefully, no fans, no aircon, limited cooking, and barely any access to devices. Just that small, strange island of light in the dark – the kitchen – which is where we’re all gathering when we need to see or plug things in. It’s not the easiest way to live, but we’re getting by.
I also won’t be able to post much, maybe not at all for a little while. There’s a lot to do here after a cyclone comes through, and right now our priority is cleanup and repairs. The yard is a mess, branches everywhere, things knocked over, debris pushed up against fences and doors, and a lot of things that need to be cleared before life can return to anything close to normal. Our community has that kind of unspoken agreement where everyone helps out as soon as it’s safe, so that roads, paths, and access points stay open.
I’ll be helping clean up my mob’s area so we can get back to school, work, and regular life as soon as possible. And it’s not just for us – emergency vehicles need clear access to reach people who might still be in danger, injured, without water, or in need of evacuation. After a cyclone, time matters. The faster we clean, the faster help can get where it needs to be.
It’s strange how quickly priorities change. Yesterday I was focused on exams, studying, and everything I needed to get done. Twenty-four hours later, I’m hauling branches, checking on neighbors, figuring out how to manage food without full power, and helping plan cleanup so things can run smoothly. That’s just the reality of living somewhere that deals with cyclones – sometimes nature decides everything for you.
So I wanted to check in and explain why I’m disappearing for a bit. I’m safe, my family is safe, and we’re working together with everyone around us to get things sorted. Once things settle down, the power comes back properly, and the cleanup is done, I’ll return to posting.
Until then, thank you for understanding, and please send good thoughts to everyone dealing with the effects of Cyclone Fina right now. We’ll get through it – it’s just
