The Letters Never Spoken

"The Letters Never Spoken"

Time: The morning after class began — soft rain falling

Place: Hanseong University, Classroom 3A & Campus Library

8:15 AM – Walking through campus

Im Ha-rin walked slowly down the campus path.

Cherry blossom petals scattered on the ground brushed against her white sneakers.

She had class today — that mysterious “Crushology 101.”

She walked in silence…

But her mind was racing with questions:

> “Why did I come here?”

“Is a crush just a feeling, or… is it something you're not supposed to have?”

“What if I see him again — what do I even say?”

Inside her small bag was an old, unopened letter.

No one had ever read it.

In it, she had written:

> “In your eyes, I always see a story.

But I know, I’ll never be part of it.

— Ha-rin”*

Classroom 3A – Crushology 101

That day, Professor Yoon Ho-seung didn’t sit on the desk.

He walked to the board and wrote in big letters:

> “Your first crush was your first story.”

“Write a letter. To someone you never could tell.”

Silence filled the room.

Jae-woon stared out the window, expressionless.

But his pen… it was shaking.

Cho Mi-rae lowered her head and chuckled softly:

> “A letter about love? I had three crushes just last year!”

Ha-rin said nothing.

She only looked at the letter… the one she never gave anyone.

[Flashback: Ha-rin’s First Crush]

Six years ago.

During a summer break in a small village school — a new boy had arrived: Han Jae-woon.

One rainy afternoon, he had pulled her under his umbrella and said:

> “If you cry, I won’t be able to smile.”

“When you grow up and fall in love… will you be able to tell him?”

That day, Ha-rin had laughed and said:

> “I won’t love anyone… I promise.”

And after that, they were never together again.

Inside the Class – Students Writing Letters

Professor Ho-seung said:

> “You’re not supposed to give this letter to anyone.

Just make your inner voice honest.”

Ha-rin began writing…

> “When I see you, it still feels like…

You’re standing just across the window.

But I’m too afraid to call your name.

Because I know — you won’t look back.”

After Class – Library Corner

Jae-woon was sitting in a quiet, dusty corner of the library.

Ha-rin gathered her courage and sat beside him.

No words for a while.

> Ha-rin softly asked,

“Did you write a letter today?”

Jae-woon didn’t look at her. But he replied, gently—

> “To someone… like you.”

Ha-rin was stunned.

In the library corner:

Jae-woon slowly turned to look at Ha-rin.

In his eyes — there was no surprise, no question.

Only the weight of something deeply familiar.

> “Do you know what you have?” he asked.

“A face… I’ve never forgotten.”

Ha-rin’s throat tightened.

She reached into her bag and pulled out the letter.

A white envelope, with only two words handwritten: “Dear…”

But no name.

> — “This...”

— “Can’t be given.”

— “Why?”

— “Because once it’s said… everything ends.”

Suddenly, a noise at the door.

Cho Mi-rae stood there.

Her eyes held quiet surprise — and for once, no smile on her lips.

> “Oh my, you two together? This feels just like a K-drama scene!”

“Ha-rin, I didn’t think you’d take Crushology this seriously!”

Ha-rin tried to say something.

But seeing Mi-rae… she fell silent.

On the other side, Jae-woon was thinking—

> “How can you be so silent, Ha-rin?”

“Do you know… my first letter was also about you?”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded paper.

> “If I ever fall in love, I’ll tell her with silence first.

Because she deserves a love that doesn't scream, but stays.”

Night – Hostel Balcony

Ha-rin was rereading the letter under the stars.

Cho Mi-rae sat beside her.

> “Are you going to give your letter to someone?”

“No.”

“To Jae-woon?”

“I haven’t said anything…”

Mi-rae looked at her deeply.

> “You know… I like Jae-woon.”

“But you... why are you always so quiet around him?”

Ha-rin didn’t answer.

Because she knew—

> “Love isn’t always about looking at someone.

Sometimes, it’s just about quietly sitting beside them… even without saying a word.”

Final Scene: The Letter Box in Class

The next day in Crushology 101, students dropped their letters into a small box.

Professor Ho-seung announced:

> “This box holds the words you never said.

No one will read them — but the Universe will listen.”

Ha-rin stood with her letter in hand.

Her fingers were trembling.

Han Jae-woon watched her… but didn’t say a word.

Because he knew —

The nameless recipient of that letter…

Was him.
