⚠️ Content Warning – Chapter 4
Contains murder, blood, trauma recovery, and mentions of past abuse.
Renji is still a child in this chapter. His escape is violent, but it’s about survival.
Chapter 4 – “Fox with No Chains”
The black market smelled like perfume, sweat, and fear.
Renji sat inside the cage, legs folded, tail curled around him like a blanket. He kept his head low. Didn’t speak. Didn’t blink too much. Just breathed.
People passed by with coins in hand and cold eyes on the cages.
> “How much for that one?” “Is it trained?” “Tame?”
They always said “it.” Never “he.”
He was dressed in black silk, collar snug around his neck, a silver chain clipped to the bars. His fluffy ears twitched under candlelight. One man laughed.
> “Cute little thing. Looks delicate.”
Renji didn’t move.
He waited.
A man finally chose him.
Fancy coat. Gold rings. Bad cologne. Drunk, probably.
> “I’ll take the fox. He’ll sell well in the northern rings. Or keep him for fun.”
The cage creaked open.
Renji didn’t flinch.
The man leaned down, hand reaching for him.
> “Good boy,” he said. “Come here.”
Renji looked up, eyes sharp as blades.
And then he lunged.
His fangs sank into the man’s throat deep and fast, before the man could even scream. Blood sprayed across the silk, hot and red.
The chain snapped. The man collapsed.
Panic exploded.
> “HE’S OUT!!” “THE FOX—HE’S LOOSE!!”
Renji darted through the open bars. In one blink, his body shrank and shifted fur exploded over his limbs, his form snapped small and sleek. He hit the floor in fox form, pitch-black, wild-eyed, faster than shadows.
They chased him.
Whips cracked. Nets flew. Spells lit the air in purple sparks.
Renji zigzagged through cages, knocked over torches, caused fires to erupt. He used his size, his speed, and his rage.
> “YOU STUPID DEMON, CATCH HIM!”
One guard swung an axe. Renji leapt, kicked off the man’s face with his back paws, and vanished into a crack between crates.
The exit wasn’t guarded anymore. Too much chaos. Too much blood.
He saw the night sky through a broken ceiling panel. Smelled fresh air. Trees.
Freedom.
He bolted through crates, clawed up the beams, and launched himself out into the cold night.
He didn’t stop running.
Not when his paws bled.
Not when the wind stung his eyes.
Not when he heard someone shouting his name behind him. (Not his real name. Just “FOX.” Just “GET HIM.”)
He ran until his lungs burned and the market was gone behind the hills.
Renji collapsed in the forest, near a frozen stream. He shifted back into human form bare feet, messy black hair, silk torn and stained.
His collar was still around his neck. But the chain was gone.
> “Mama…” he whispered.
His voice broke.
He curled up under the trees, tail wrapping around his small body, chest heaving.
> “I escaped… I did it… Mama…”
But she wasn’t there to hear him.
So he cried. Alone. For the last time in his life.
He would never cry again.
He would never be chained again.
They made him into a monster?
Fine.
He would become a legend.
End of Chapter 4
> Author Note:
Well. He did it.
Baby Renji finally snapped a neck and dipped.
I warned you he wasn’t going to stay a sweet little cub forever. This chapter was his breaking point and his beginning. No more cage. No more chains. Just blood, freedom, and a demon fox with nothing left to lose.
I’m not gonna lie… I almost cried writing this one again. The way he waited. The way he ran. The way he bit first, asked no questions later.
If you love this little demon, support him. Bookmark, comment, scream in the replies. Let’s keep him running for revenge, survival, and maybe, one day, something like peace.
Renji’s only getting colder from here… until someone dares to melt him.
Stay sharp, stay sly, and support my other lazy-unupdated novels too while you’re here.
