Ghost Calling

Ghost Calling

Kanchipuram Calling

“Kanchipuram Calling”

🌙 Part 1: Late Night Train

It was 11:45 PM. Sandhya sat alone in a ladies’ coach of the Chennai-Kanchipuram local.

Train full ah empty. No other passenger.

Only sound: “Dhud-dhud, dhud-dhud” of the wheels.

She checked phone: “No Signal.”

“Eyyyy,” she said to herself, “Why I’m even going to this stupid function? That too night la solo travel...”

Suddenly...

> “Inga ukkandhuko ma…”

Sandhya turned.

One girl was standing. White chudidhar. Face not visible properly. Hair wet. Carrying an old-style handbag — like her patti’s time.

“Epdi vandha? Door lock ah irundhudhu la?”

Girl sat quietly. Didn’t talk more. Just stared outside.

Sandhya: “Okay… super creepy.” But she didn’t say it out loud.

🚨 Part 2: The Missing Girl

Next stop came. Sandhya blinked for a second.

The white-dressed girl was gone.

“Eh?” she whispered.

She got up. Checked outside. Coach full empty. No one got off. No one got in.

“Ghost uh?” she said jokingly — to calm herself.

But her back felt chilling. Not cold… but like someone just blew air on her neck.

She sat back. Shivering a little.

Suddenly… the girl’s bag was still there on the opposite seat.

Sandhya: “Oh god. She forgot it… or she disappeared?”

She slowly opened the bag.

Inside:

Old black & white photo

Temple ticket — Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal

Train ticket… dated 1983 😨

---

🧠 Part 3: Flashback Clues

Sandhya’s heart beat like exam results day.

She took the photo closer. It showed a young girl (same face), standing near the Kanchipuram temple gopuram.

Behind the photo, it was written in Tamil:

> “Enaku back varum... naa thirumbi varen.”

She got goosebumps. “This is not normal.”

She kept the bag. Reached Kanchipuram station. Train stopped.

A station master was standing, half-asleep. Sandhya ran to him.

“Uncle, this bag… someone left in train. Look, the ticket is from 1983!”

The man looked at the photo.

He froze.

“Yaaru da idhu vechu prank panradhu?” he said. “I know this girl…”

Sandhya: “What?!”

He whispered:

> “She died in 1983. Train accident. They say her soul never reached home… every year around Aadi month, she comes back. Sitting in the last coach.”

Sandhya’s legs became jelly.

---

🔥 Part 4: The Ritual

That old man called two railway workers.

One of them, Ramesh anna, said:

> “Last year also bag vandhudhu. Same photo. But police ignore pannanga. She’s trying to tell something.”

Sandhya: “Why me? Why only I saw her?”

Ramesh said: “She only shows to girls who are… kind.”

Sandhya didn't know whether to feel honored or cursed.

He said: “You must take her bag… and place it near her house. Only then, her spirit may find rest.”

“But I don’t know where she lived!”

He pointed to the back of the photo again.

There was a line:

> “Veedu – Muthu Street, near Perumal kovil.”

---

🏚️ Part 5: The House

Early morning, 5:30 AM. Sun just rising.

Sandhya reached Muthu Street. Most houses were quiet.

She asked an old lady selling flowers, “Paati… this girl, you know?”

The lady looked at the photo.

Her eyes filled with tears.

> “That’s my niece... Lakshmi. She went to Chennai for college. Never came back. Ticket was booked. But she never reached station. We only got the news two days later.”

Sandhya gave her the bag.

The lady trembled, touched the photo, and cried.

> “She kept saying she wanted to pray at Perumal temple before results came. She never got the chance…”

They lit an oil lamp. Placed the photo inside the house’s front pooja shelf.

Wind blew.

For a moment… Sandhya felt a hand on her shoulder.

She turned.

Nobody was there.

Only a soft whisper…

> “Nandri…”

---

🌸 Epilogue: One Year Later

Sandhya never saw the girl again.

But every Aadi month, she comes to the temple and lights a lamp for Lakshmi.

And every time she boards the Kanchipuram train, she checks the seat opposite her — just once.

Just in case.

Because kindness… never goes unnoticed.

Even by the forgotten souls.
