Episode 4

Alpha Savir's eyes widened as he watched the sisters walk toward the room where their father was.

"What madness are you talking about, Lady Lynn? Impossible!"

The old woman cradled his face and looked at him.

"The Alpha said it first. We need to expand. There is no more room on our lands, Alpha Savir. But what about the north, as it was predicted? If you become the mate of someone from Green Field, you could buy lands that belong to that family. The King Alpha of Green Field cannot refuse because of the Treaty of Orion, and as the son-in-law of a lord, you could make it possible."

Alpha Savir lowered his gaze. There were no flaws in old Lady Lynn's logic.

Anika and Saya went to their father. He was so frightened, but seeing them well helped him calm down.

The girls slept that night on the cold floor, while the healer came several times to check on him.

The next morning.

The man was better. He still could not walk very well, but he could stand.

"The arrow didn't go all the way through. Otherwise, he could have lost the leg. I'm afraid his wolf will be injured for longer," the healer said.

Someone knocked on the door. The woman lowered her head when she saw Alpha Savir enter.

Anika did the same, but Saya did not.

Alpha Savir met her intense sky-blue gaze.

"Good morning. I'm glad to see you better, Lord Sallow."

Alpha Savir summoned an employee and asked her to take the girls to the main dining room for breakfast. Then he asked the healer to leave.

Saya was reluctant, but Anika forced her out.

Once they were alone, Lord Sallow knew what was happening.

"Thank you, Alpha Savir. I know you saved our lives."

Alpha Savir walked around the room.

"I'm glad you are aware of my great generosity. The Luna Dagda pack does not usually help anyone outside its tribe. I made an exception for you. But now that same help has placed you in my debt."

Lord Sallow swallowed and looked steadily at him from his chair, since standing was agony.

He nodded.

"I know. Tell me, how can I repay this unforgettable favor?"

Alpha Savir turned, giving him his back. He thought of what the pack expected from him, but he also thought of Maeve, his beloved dead mate. To him, marrying another would be a betrayal.

Forgive me, Maeve. You know I will never love another she-wolf the way I loved you.

"I am going to marry one of your daughters. That will consolidate an alliance between the Sallows and the Luna Dagda pack."

Lord Sallow's eyes widened in fear. He had expected anything but that.

He lowered his gaze.

"Marry one of my daughters? Well, I didn't think you would ask for that."

"You should take it as an honor. My pack has remained strong and independent for years. Besides, Lord Sallow, this would benefit us both. You will know you are protected, even from the insipid King Alpha Kadir you serve."

The man nodded slowly.

I have no choice, he thought.

"Very well. Have you already chosen one of my daughters?"

"I have chosen the oldest. I will marry her."

"The oldest is my daughter Anika."

"Anika? Which one is she?"

"The blonde."

The man nodded, though he did not know why he felt a certain disappointment inside.

It's for the best. That one is submissive. The other seems rebellious, and her scent... that scent would end up being hell for me, he thought.

But his wolf let out a howl inside him, protesting.

She is my mate.

Alpha Savir refused to listen.

Later, the time came for the Sallows to leave. Saya was happy. Even Alpha Savir himself brought them the carriage the pack had so they could go home.

Lord Sallow offered him his hand.

"Do not forget our pact."

"I am a wolf of my word. I would never forget it, Alpha Savir."

Anika looked at the man and lowered her head in a gentle bow.

"Thank you very much, Alpha Savir."

He nodded, almost giving her a faint smile, which left her stunned and excited.

Saya frowned. She was about to make her own bow when the man turned and left, leaving her standing there.

She looked after him, furious. No one had ever been so discourteous to her. She was the daughter of a lord.

Humiliated, she swallowed and climbed into the carriage. Seconds later, the Sallows left the Luna Dagda pack.

They traveled for an entire day and arrived at dawn.

When they arrived, Alpha Savir's guards helped their father down. Their mother opened the door, sobbing, overcome at seeing them again.

They seated the man in an armchair in the main salon, then left.

"Anika! Saya! What happened?"

"We escaped, Mother, but... the Luna Dagda pack helped us."

"God! The pack of savages?"

"Be quiet, woman. Those savages saved our lives from the claws of the King Alpha's guards."

"Father!"

Lord Sallow's eyes nearly bulged when he saw Elric.

"Elric! How could you?" his father cried, biting out the words in rage.

Saya walked up to Elric, glared at him, and delivered a stinging slap.

"Saya! Don't be a savage. What are you doing?" her mother intervened.

"Do you know what he did? He put our lives in danger."

"I'm sorry! I fell in love, but everything has been resolved. The King Alpha gave his consent for me to be the one to marry his daughter!"

Lord Sallow was stunned. Their mother smiled happily.

"This is the best news! Don't you think? My son will be a prince consort."

"But how?"

The employee came to them.

"King Alpha Kadir has arrived!"
