The Problematic Heiress

chapter#1The Yokai Gang

In the middle of the night, Stella was awakened by the constant ringing of her phone.

“Who dares to call me at this hour?” she muttered irritably as she answered.

“I’ve got your best friend,” a voice on the other end said coldly.

“What?! That’s impossible! Who is this?” she demanded.

“Who I am is not important. I want the land in the west. Do that, and I’ll make sure she stays safe,” he threatened.

Stella scoffed, clearly annoyed, as if she’d just heard a bad joke.

“No matter how powerful you think you are, you can’t touch the Yokai Gang! Hahaha!”

Hearing that made her blood boil.

“Yokai Gang? Did you seriously wake me up in the middle of the night just to tell me how stupid you are?!”

“You think I don’t have connections, do you? Now you have no choice but to hand over that piece of land.”

“You really haven’t done your homework, have you? I hate talking to fools.”

“I have an ace up my sleeve—you lose.”

“Ha! Good luck with your so-called ace,” she said mockingly.

“What do you mean?”

“Do you even know who you’re messing with? That ‘ace’ you’re talking about is the granddaughter of the very Yokai Gang you’re threatening!” she shouted angrily.

“What?!—”

“The old man sure is lucky; he got millions without lifting a hand,” Stella muttered tiredly before hanging up the phone. She rolled over and went back to sleep.

Early in the morning, Stella’s phone began ringing once again. The sharp tone echoed through her room, slicing through her precious sleep. Half-asleep and annoyed, she groaned, rolling over to grab the phone from her bedside table. For a split second, she was ready to smash it against the floor—until she saw the caller ID.

It was Mr. Lane.

With a deep sigh, she answered, her tone dripping with irritation. “This better be important.”

A nervous voice came from the other end. “Young madam, I’m terribly sorry for not informing you earlier about Annie’s situation—”

“Now that you’ve called, Mr. Lane, yes, I am angry,” she cut him off before he could finish. “I was disturbed twice in my sleep, and for that, I want thirty percent of the total payment you received for that ridiculous stunt.”

“Ah… M-Madam…” Mr. Lane stammered, completely caught off guard. He hadn’t expected her to be so bold—no, shameless—to demand directly.

“Make it fifty percent,” Stella continued firmly, crossing her arms as she leaned back on her pillows.

“Don’t be too hard on this old man,” he pleaded, his tone turning pitiful. “You know I’m getting too old for this kind of stress.”

She smirked, unimpressed. “You wouldn’t have earned those millions if it weren’t for me. I played the biggest role here—so I deserve half.”

There was a long silence on the other end. She could almost hear him sigh in defeat.

“Okay, okay! Young people are so hard to deal with,” he finally muttered. “Thirty percent. I’ll send it to you now.”

A satisfied smile tugged at Stella’s lips. “Good choice,” she said lazily before hanging up.

Another victory before breakfast.
