Velia
He leaned on the large and tall elm tree behind him, eyes fixed on the young mortal dancing before him. She was somewhat around the age of five and yet she was a sight for sore eyes. he was sure that in her teenage years, she would be a killer. She had an extremely long and glossy midnight black hair with weirdly colored highlights at the root coupled with the most outstanding pair of eyes he had ever seen. Her eyes were a sort of bluish-purple. It was a blessing to be before a little child whose beauty surpassed any other mortal in the world and most immortals. She looked like an angel and the white dress she was in only seemed to confirm that notion. She had a mark on her nape. It was hard to decipher as it was an animal with the head of a lion, the body of a lamb and the wings of an eagle. The mark possibly went down to her back. He smiled. She was the one. She was the Revolution.
As she danced, he couldn't help but notice that her presence radiated a grace that was far beyond her years.
As though feeling the burn of his eyes on her, her head snapped in his direction with much force that could have cracked it. He smiled once more. Her instinct was as good as he had expected. Too bad no one could see him; neither mortal nor immortal. She dusted her clothe and walked with much poise in the direction he was standing. She had probably seen an interesting bug or something. No big deal. Then, she came to a halt right in front of him and gave a little wave. He looked back and saw no one and stared curiously at the captivating mortal before him. There was no way in hell she could see him.
She crossed her arms and frowned. "You know, you're not very nice. You could have just said you didn't want to talk or something. Anything would be better than ignoring me."
He stared at her at loss for words. "You can see me?"
"What do you think you are? Invisible?" she queried with a perfectly arched brow raised. He simply shrugged as a form of reply. "I really hope you don't think so. That would be the most hilarious thing I've heard and I would have to assume that you are crazy."
He bent down to her level. Silver eyes to amethyst ones. "Shouldn't you be running into your home? Little kids like you are told not to talk to strangers."
"You're not scary. I'm pretty sure you can't even hurt a fly even if you tried," she murmured.
It was his turn to raise his brow. "What makes you think so?"
She shrugged. "It's just how you look."
He chuckled lowly. "Then looks must be very deceiving, my dear."
She stared at him silently for a while before saying, "You don't have much friends, do you?"
"Why would you even ask that?"
She shrugged. "I just guessed you wouldn't be talking to me if you did. I'm not very exciting."
He gripped her chin, his silver eyes flashing shining in the dark of the night. "I disagree with that. You are the most interesting creature I have ever met. And I have met a lot of people."
She bit the inside of her mouth. "Thank you but most kids at my school wouldn't agree." She scoffed. "They hate me because I'm different but aren't we all?" He didn't say anything. "You were right."
"About?"
"Looks can be very deceiving."
There was a smile on her lips but he saw the tears welling up in her eyes. Zeus, he didn't want her to cry. He could not handle a crying child. "There's no need to cry. **** them!" She giggled. "Did I say something funny?"
She nodded still giggling. "You said ****."
"And?"
"My daddy would kill you if he heard you say it. His face would become red and puffy and he'll be ugly. **** is a bad word, though," she said innocently causing him to smile then she frowned. "I have to go back now and I would really miss your company."
He smiled. "Just say my name whenever you need someone to talk to and I'll be there."
She tilted her head. "Promise?" He nodded. "But I don't know your name."
"Adonis."
"I like it but I'll just call you Donny," she said and then they both heard some sounds coming from the house. "My daddy would kill me if I stay out too long and scare him like the last time. Bye. It was really nice to speak to you."
Leaving no room for him to reply, she spun on her heel and walked away as graceful as she had walked to him. He stood up and watched her walk away until her image disappeared from his sight. The gods had done a fabulous job. And to think that the Fates had been against it before finally agreeing. He stood awestruck by their creation.
Hopefully he would be able to keep his word just for her sake. Glancing one last time at her house, he vanished into thin air back to his home. He needed to think. There was a lot to report to his master.
If only he had known that his presence had stirred the creatures that were against him and turned them against his angel, he would never had left her unprotected. The next thing he heard was the sound of her cries. he spun around and saw her house on fire. he shook his head. he knew he should never have showed his face.
