Episode 3 — The Touch of the Curse

The night after the battle was silent.

Too silent.

The kind of silence that follows chaos — heavy, watchful, breathing.

The penthouse was dark except for the faint moonlight spilling through the windows. Y/N stood in her bedroom, staring at her reflection.

Blood had splattered across her once-immaculate gown, streaks of crimson against black silk. Her reflection looked foreign — the same cold eyes, the same power, but something beneath had shifted.

Because of him.

Min Jae.

The man who fought like a soldier, protected like a shadow, and looked at her like she was more than her crown.

Her fingers brushed the faint mark glowing on her wrist. The same one that now lived on his.

The Moon Curse.

A power that fed on emotion.

The closer they grew, the stronger it became.

And yet — she couldn’t stop thinking about his voice.

His hands.

The way he’d said, “Then teach me the rules.”

She exhaled sharply. “Pathetic,” she muttered to herself. “You don’t fall for your guard.”

---

Meanwhile, downstairs.

Min Jae was still awake, sitting on the couch with his shirt half-open and a towel draped over his neck. His knuckles were bruised, but his expression was calm — focused.

He was rewatching the night in his head — her movements, the way she commanded the battlefield like a queen in her element.

She was untouchable.

And yet, every time her eyes met his, it felt like the world dared him to reach anyway.

He rolled up his sleeve, revealing the faint silvery mark glowing under his skin. It pulsed softly, almost like a heartbeat.

> “You and I,” he murmured, “we’re really in trouble, aren’t we?”

---

The next morning, Y/N called an emergency meeting with her closest circle.

The air was sharp with tension.

> “Someone inside leaked our port location,” she said, voice cold. “I want them found before the next moon cycle.”

Her second-in-command hesitated. “Boss… that’s only three days away.”

> “Then you’d better move fast.”

Min Jae stood at her right, silent but alert. She could feel his presence — calm, steady, grounding. It was distracting.

As the meeting ended, the others dispersed quickly, leaving just the two of them.

Y/N finally turned to him. “You should rest.”

> “Not until you do.”

She gave him a pointed look. “I don’t take orders.”

> “That wasn’t one.”

Her lips curved faintly. “You’re either very brave or very stupid, Min Jae.”

> “Maybe both,” he said, eyes glinting. “But you keep me around, so I must be doing something right.”

She almost laughed — almost.

But before she could respond, the faint pulse on her wrist flared again.

This time, it hurt.

Y/N winced, clutching her arm.

> “Ma’am?”

Min Jae stepped forward instantly, catching her before she could fall. Her knees buckled, the mark glowing bright silver, veins shimmering beneath her skin.

The same light flickered across his wrist. He gritted his teeth, feeling the burn spread through his arm — the curse reacting to their proximity.

> “Don’t—” she gasped, “don’t touch me—”

> “Too late.”

He tightened his grip, refusing to let go. The light grew brighter, wrapping around them like threads of moonlight.

Y/N’s breath hitched. Images flashed in her mind — fragments of past lives, blood and moonlight, two souls always meeting, always breaking.

When the light faded, they were both trembling. Her heartbeat echoed against his chest, too fast, too human.

Min Jae lifted his gaze to meet hers. “What… was that?”

Y/N swallowed hard. Her voice was barely above a whisper.

> “The curse just advanced.”

> “Meaning?”

> “Meaning it’s binding us faster than it should.”

---

That evening, Y/N sat on the rooftop garden of her penthouse, watching the sunset bleed into the skyline. A cool breeze danced through her hair, carrying the scent of rain and danger.

She sensed him before he spoke.

> “You’re getting predictable,” she said softly.

> “Or maybe you’re getting used to me.”

Min Jae walked over, sitting beside her on the low stone wall. He didn’t look at her; he just watched the city below, the hum of traffic far away.

For a while, they stayed silent.

Then Y/N broke it.

> “Do you know what happens when the curse completes its bond?”

> “No.”

She exhaled slowly. “The first host — centuries ago — fell in love with her protector. The gods punished her by sealing their souls together for eternity. Every reincarnation, they’d find each other again. Every time, they’d die because of it.”

> “And now…”

> “Now we carry the same mark.”

Min Jae turned to her then, eyes searching her face. “So we’re their curse reborn.”

Y/N’s lips twisted into a bitter smile. “Congratulations, you’re my cosmic punishment.”

He chuckled softly. “Could’ve been worse.”

> “You think dying for me every lifetime is funny?”

> “No,” he said gently. “But I think living for you might be worth it.”

Her breath caught — just for a heartbeat.

The sunset painted his face in gold and shadow, his eyes softer than she’d ever seen them.

> “You shouldn’t say things like that,” she whispered.

> “Why?”

> “Because I might start believing you.”

---

Later that night, as she lay in bed, the mark on her wrist began to glow again — faint, rhythmic.

Somewhere down the hall, Min Jae stirred. He could feel her pain. The bond was growing stronger, connecting their emotions, their heartbeats, their very souls.

He stood, barefoot and quiet, walking to her door.

> “Come in,” her voice called — before he even knocked.

He entered. The room was dark except for the silver light bathing her in moonlight. She was sitting up, eyes half-closed, breathing uneven.

> “It’s getting stronger,” she said.

He nodded. “I can feel it.”

She looked up at him then — tired, beautiful, defiant.

> “Do you regret it?” she asked suddenly.

> “Regret what?”

> “Tying yourself to me.”

He took a step closer, stopping just in front of her. “You think I had a choice?”

> “Everyone does.”

> “Then I choose you.”

For a moment, the world went quiet. The mark on both their wrists shimmered — synchronizing.

Her hand lifted slowly, almost against her will, resting against his chest. His heartbeat was steady — too steady for someone standing so close to her.

> “You don’t understand what you’re saying,” she whispered. “If this bond completes—”

> “Then I’ll face whatever comes with you.”

Y/N’s eyes softened, a thousand emotions flickering there — fear, anger, longing.

> “You really are impossible, Min Jae.”

> “That’s what you like about me.”

---

The mark pulsed again — but this time, it didn’t hurt. It warmed.

Light spread between them, soft and glowing, like silk threads weaving around their fingers.

The curse wasn’t consuming them.

It was responding.

Changing.

Y/N blinked, whispering, “This isn’t supposed to happen…”

Min Jae smiled faintly. “Then maybe we’re rewriting the curse.”

Her breath trembled. “Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

> “I don’t promise,” he said. “I protect.”

And for the first time in centuries — across all lifetimes — the cursed queen didn’t push away her shadow.

She let him stay.
