The Girl Behind The Screen

The Girl Behind The Screen

The DM that started everything

Hyugi didn’t usually scroll TikTok for long, but that night she needed a break.

Her class group chat was exploding again—people asking the same questions she’d already answered five times. As class captain, she’d spent the entire afternoon fixing schedules and answering complaints from classmates who acted allergic to responsibility.

Her brain was done.

So she opened TikTok and let the noise swallow her.

That’s when she saw her again.

Rin Harvey.

The soft-masc creator half her country seemed obsessed with.

Rin had pale skin, long straight black hair, and that effortless messy style that somehow always looked good. She lived in oversized T-shirts or loose button-up shirts—nothing fancy, yet undeniably attractive.

Her voice was loud, her laugh even louder, and everything about her on camera screamed chaotic comfort.

Tonight’s video showed Rin chasing her friends down a beach, her hair flying behind her, T-shirt plastered to her back from the ocean wind.

Hyugi snorted.

“Idiots,” she muttered with a smile.

She typed a comment:

“Y’all look like chaos but fun chaos 😂🔥”

Then she tossed her phone aside and went back to organizing class notes, thinking nothing of it.

⭐ Later That Night — Rin Goes Live

Hyugi reopened TikTok while tying her short, wavy dark hair into a clip.

Rin was live.

She tapped instantly.

Rin sat on her bedroom floor, pale skin catching the warm yellow lighting. Her long black hair was loose, falling over her shoulders like silk. She wore a simple black T-shirt that hung slightly off her frame.

Behind her sat two girls—her best friends—bickering over snacks like children.

Rin looked exhausted and gorgeous at the same time.

“OKAY LISTEN,” Rin snapped, snatching the snack bag. “This chocolate is MINE.”

“You didn’t claim it!” one friend whined.

“I DID. I LITERALLY DID—”

Hyugi bit her lip to hide a laugh.

Then the taller friend clapped her hands.

“Time for a game!”

Rin glared. “No. I know that tone. I hate that tone.”

The girl ignored her and snatched Rin’s phone.

“We DM a random commenter from your last post!”

Rin lunged.

“PUT THAT DOWN—”

Too late.

Her friend scrolled through Rin’s comment section as Rin covered her face with both hands.

The scrolling stopped.

On Hyugi’s comment.

“‘Y’all look like chaos but fun chaos,’” Rin read, peeking through her fingers. “Okay… they kinda ate with this one.”

Her friend pressed Message.

Rin slapped her arm. “YOU DID NOT—”

The live chat exploded with laughing emojis.

Hyugi’s phone buzzed.

⭐ The First DM —

Hyugi didn’t even pretend she wasn’t curious.

She unlocked her phone.

A message from Rin Haevey.

> Rin:

“My friend stole my phone 😭

I refuse to be held responsible for anything she typed.”

Hyugi smirked.

> Hyugi:

“It’s okay. Her energy matches yours.”

Rin typed, stopped, typed again.

> Rin:

“WOW. Calling me chaotic on our first convo is CRAZY ”

> Hyugi:

“I’m class captain. Identifying chaos is my profession.”

Rin sent a short voice note—her laugh, real and unfiltered.

Hyugi’s chest warmed.

> Rin:

“Wait—class captain??

So you’re like… responsible and organized?”

> Hyugi:

“Someone has to be.”

> Rin:

“Couldn’t be me. I once burned instant noodles.”

> Hyugi:

“…How?”

> Rin:

“Talent ”

Hyugi chuckled softly.

They kept talking—smooth, natural, too easy for strangers.

> Rin:

“I’ll let you get back to your captain duties lol.”

“But you’re cool. Text me again.”

Hyugi replied without hesitation.

> Hyugi:

“Sure. My DMs are open.”

Rin sent her final message:

> Rin:

“Goodnight, Captain.”

Hyugi locked her phone with a small, reluctant smile.

She didn’t want this to mean anything.

But it already did.
