The morning sun rose gently over Elarion, casting long beams of gold across the palace gardens. Lyra stepped out into the courtyard, still feeling the echo of last night’s discovery—the map, the hidden crest, and the name she had never heard before: Astraeus.
Her mind kept circling back to the one thing she couldn’t forget…
Why did her mother hide this from her?
As she walked past the glistening fountains, Elder Caelum approached, his steps slow but deliberate. His silver robes brushed softly against the ground, and his eyes—deep as ancient wells—watched her with quiet concern.
“You did not rest,” Caelum said.
“I couldn’t,” Lyra admitted. “The map… the crest… I feel like it’s calling me.Caelum nodded, as if he expected her to say that. “Some truths wait until we are ready. Others force their way into the light.”
Lyra looked up sharply. “You know something, don’t you?”
The elder paused, then gestured for her to walk with him. They strolled through the marble pathway lined with white blossoms swaying in the breeze.
“There is an old prophecy,” Caelum began, “sealed long before you were born. It speaks of a child of light… born during the Dawn Eclipse… destined to break the veil between worlds.””Lyra’s steps faltered. “The Dawn Eclipse? That happened the day I was born.”
“Exactly,” Caelum whispered.
The revelation struck her like a cold wind. She had always felt different—like a faint tremor in her own soul—but hearing it spoken aloud made it real.
“Why would my mother hide this?” she asked.
“She feared what the prophecy might demand of you,” Caelum said. “And what dangers it might attract. Before Lyra could respond, a sudden crackle split the air—like lightning without thunder. Both turned toward the far end of the courtyard where shadows twisted unnaturally, swirling into a dark vortex.
A figure stepped out.
Tall. Cloaked in obsidian robes. A mask covering his face like carved stone. His presence sucked the warmth from the air.
Caelum moved instantly, stepping in front of Lyra.”“You are not welcome here,” the elder warned.
The masked figure tilted his head slightly. “She carries the mark,” he said, his voice deep and echoing. “The Kingdom Beyond Dawn will reclaim what belongs to it.”
Lyra felt her pulse hammer. “Who are you?”
The masked figure raised his hand, revealing a symbol glowing faintly—a twisted version of her own crest.
“I am a Harbinger of the Veil,” he said. “And you, Princess, are the key to its awakening.”
Before he could take another step, Caelum slammed his staff against the ground. A burst of blue light erupted, forcing the Harbinger back. The vortex behind him flickered violently.
“This is not your realm,” Caelum commanded. “Begone!”
The Harbinger gave a slow, chilling laugh.
“For now,” he said, retreating into the swirling shadows. “But the veil is weakening. And when it breaks… she will come to us willingly.”
The vortex sealed shut with a shuddering snap.
Lyra stood frozen, her breath shaking. “Caelum… what does he want with me?”
The elder turned to her, his face grave.
“The question, child, is not what he wants,” he said softly.
“It’s what the veil is hiding from you.”
A chill ran down her spine—one she could feel in her bones.
