QUIET NIGHT

The night was unnaturally quiet.

Even the wind seemed to hold its breath as Yin Yin stood in the corridor, her fingers still gripping her phone tightly. The faint glow from the screen reflected in her eyes—eyes that were no longer soft or naive.

On the screen was the image.

Clear. Undeniable.

Ha Na… placing the necklace inside her suitcase.

A slow breath escaped Yin Yin’s lips.

“So this is how it begins…” she murmured.

Footsteps echoed from the distance.

Yin Yin didn’t move.

Instead, she turned slightly, positioning herself where the light barely touched her face. Half-hidden. Half-revealed.

Like a shadow.

The door creaked open.

“Yin Yin, what is going on here?” Ms. Yul’s sharp voice cut through the silence.

Behind her stood Mr. Yul, his expression already dark with suspicion. And Ha Na—pale, tense, her usual sweet smile nowhere to be found.

Yin Yin lifted her gaze slowly.

For a brief second, no one spoke.

Something was different.

Something… unsettling.

“Mother,” Yin Yin said calmly, her voice soft but steady. “You came at the perfect time.”

Ms. Yul frowned. “Stop playing games and explain yourself!”

Yin Yin didn’t argue.

She simply raised her phone.

“Before I explain,” she said, “maybe you should see something first.”

The room fell silent as the video played.

Second by second.

Frame by frame.

Ha Na’s figure appeared clearly—her movements cautious, her eyes glancing around before slipping the necklace into the suitcase.

There was no denying it.

There was no escaping it.

“……”

For the first time, the powerful Yul family had nothing to say.

Ha Na’s lips trembled. “I—I can explain—”

“Explain?” Yin Yin tilted her head slightly, her expression unreadable. “Explain what, exactly?”

Her tone wasn’t loud.

It didn’t need to be.

It was sharp enough to cut through everything.

Ms. Yul’s face turned pale, then flushed with anger.

“Ha Na… what is this?” she demanded.

Ha Na shook her head frantically. “Mom, it’s not what it looks like! I was just—”

“Just framing me?” Yin Yin finished calmly.

The words landed like a hammer.

Mr. Yul’s expression darkened even further.

“You’ve gone too far,” he said coldly.

But this time… he wasn’t looking at Yin Yin.

Yin Yin watched everything unfold quietly.

Inside, her heart was strangely calm.

No fear.

No panic.

Only control.

“So this,” she thought, “is what it feels like… to hold the truth.”

Ha Na’s composure finally cracked.

Tears welled up in her eyes as she rushed forward. “Dad, please! I didn’t mean it! I just—I was angry! I didn’t think it would go this far!”

Ms. Yul hesitated.

For the first time, doubt flickered across her face.

But Yin Yin saw it.

And she knew.

This wasn’t enough.

Not yet.

Because this family…

Never truly cared about the truth.

Yin Yin lowered her phone slowly.

“This is only the beginning,” she said softly.

Everyone turned to look at her.

And for a moment—

They felt it.

That cold, quiet change.

Yin Yin stepped back, her figure blending into the dim light once more.

“If you think this is over…” she continued, her voice barely above a whisper,

“…then you don’t know me at all.”

Outside, the wind finally began to move.

The shadows shifted.

And somewhere in the darkness—

Someone was watching.

Li Chen leaned casually against the gate, his lips curling into a faint smile.

“Interesting…” he murmured.

His eyes followed Yin Yin’s silhouette through the window.

“The game has started.”
