Ava stood beside Asher in the grand throne room of the angel palace, the morning light casting bright rays through the stained-glass windows. The colors danced across the marble floor like living rainbows—beautiful, but misleading. Today would not be easy.
Representatives from both the Angel Council and the Devil Court had arrived for the first official negotiation since the marriage of their rulers. Tension filled the air, sharp and heavy, as angels eyed devils and devils eyed angels, each group waiting for the other to make the first mistake.
Asher squeezed Ava’s hand gently. “Whatever happens,” he whispered, “we face it together.”
Ava nodded, taking a deep breath. She could handle politics. She could handle arguments. What scared her was the idea that the peace they fought for could crumble so easily.
Queen Dezrie began the meeting. “We are gathered to discuss the new shared lands between our kingdoms. Trade, safety, borders—these must be agreed upon peacefully.”
Nick, standing at Ava’s other side, crossed his arms. “And both kingdoms must be treated equally. No special treatment for angels. No special treatment for devils.”
Immediately, murmurs rippled through the room. An angel councilman stepped forward. “Devils have caused most of the past conflicts. How can we trust them to handle shared land?”
A devil noble slammed his fist on the table. “And angels started the last war by breaking the treaty! Do not pretend you are innocent!”
Ava stood tall. “We are not here to discuss old wounds. We are here to prevent new ones.”
Her voice carried through the room, powerful and steady. The arguing halted.
Asher stepped beside her. “We propose shared guardians—angel and devil peacekeepers working together. Each group will patrol the borders equally.”
The room erupted again, but this time with mixed reactions—some hopeful, some doubtful. Ava watched the faces closely. She could tell who supported peace and who secretly feared it.
One angel woman spoke softly, surprising everyone. “Perhaps it is time we try something new. The old ways led us only to war.”
A devil elder nodded slowly. “If we want a future…”
Ava stepped forward. “Then let us build it together.”
By noon, the room had calmed enough for real negotiation. It was long, exhausting, and full of heated moments, but slowly—inch by inch—progress formed. Agreements were written. Maps were marked. Compromises were made.
Finally, when the last signature was placed, Dezrie announced, “The first treaty of the new era is complete.”
Relief washed over Ava’s body. Asher gently rested his forehead against hers. “You were amazing.”
“So were you,” she murmured.
But the day wasn’t over.
That night, as Ava and Asher walked along the palace balcony, the cool breeze brushing against their skin, they talked quietly about everything that happened.
“Some people still don’t want this peace,” Ava said quietly.
“As long as we want it,” Asher replied, “that is enough. We will prove to them that this world can change.”
Ava leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. “Do you ever get scared?”
“Every day,” he admitted softly. “But I’m not scared when I’m with you.”
Ava smiled, her heart warm. The stars above glowed softly, a reminder that even in darkness, light could shine.
For the first time since their marriage, Ava truly felt like a queen—a queen who could change history.
Together, she and Asher would.
