Ep 4

Only I know what I went through in my life to become Hong Yi’s wife.

Sometimes I was so exhausted that my nose would start bleeding, yet I never gave up. I tried everything—endured everything—just to stand beside him as his wife.

But now, there was no point in thinking about any of that.

I had already left the city and moved to Busan. There, I joined a company and worked as an accountant. Life became quiet—almost too quiet.

After some time, I began to feel weak. I lost my appetite completely, and whenever I tried to eat, I would vomit. I ignored it at first. There was no way I could be pregnant—I was taking contraceptive pills regularly.

But one day, when I felt dizzy at work, a colleague insisted I visit a doctor.

Reluctantly, I agreed.

At the hospital, the doctor’s words hit me like thunder.

I was pregnant.

I was completely shocked. This child was a miracle—something God had given me when I least expected it. I was happy… yet deeply sad at the same time.

This child would only have a mother.

No father.

No relatives.

But I held my stomach and whispered softly, Don’t worry, my child. I will raise you well.

Five Years Later

“Xiamen, are you leaving early today?” a girl from my department asked late at night.

“Yes,” I replied with a tired smile. “I’m leaving early today.”

She nodded. “I know how hard you’ve worked to get here. I’m leaving too. See you tomorrow.”

“Okay,” I said.

As I approached my house, my heart skipped a beat when I noticed a bodyguard standing nearby.

Did Hong Yi send him?

Fear rushed through me. He didn’t know about my son—he couldn’t know. If he found out now, I wouldn’t even be able to hide Haoyu anymore.

Panicking, I ran inside and lifted my five-year-old son into my arms.

“Haoyu, wake up,” I whispered urgently.

“Do you remember what I told you? You have to act. Never tell anyone that you don’t have a father. Just say your father is away on work, okay?”

He nodded sleepily. “Okay, Mother. I’ll listen to you.”

A knock echoed through the room.

I opened the door and saw Hong Yi’s secretary standing outside.

“We’ve come to pick you up,” he said politely. “Mr. Hong Yi has called for you.”

My mind went blank.

After all these years… how did he find me?

A thousand thoughts rushed through my head.

Does he know about my son?

No. That was impossible.

“Okay,” I said calmly, forcing my voice to steady itself.

I was still in my office clothes—I didn’t even have time to change.

Holding Haoyu close, I got into the car and sat down.

“Son,” I whispered gently, “go to sleep. When we reach our destination, I’ll wake you.”

I kissed his forehead and held him until he fell asleep.

When we finally arrived, the bodyguards escorted me to Hong Yi’s room.

“Sir,” one of them announced, “as instructed, Madam has been brought.”

My heart pounded violently.

I was terrified that Hong Yi would recognize Haoyu. He looked so much like him…

Thankfully, his eyes were mine.
