THE OBSESSION BEGINS QUIETLY
The next morning, Devveer reached office earlier than usual.
Not because of work.
But because she might walk in early.
He sat in his black leather chair, pretending to read a file while his eyes kept flickering to the door like a man possessed.
He was not proud of it.
But he wasn’t stopping either.
His assistant, Rishu, entered hesitantly.
“Sir, the intern profiles you asked for…”
Devveer’s voice was calm, too calm.
“Just one profile.”
“Y-yes. Dimpal Sharma.”
Devveer stiffened.
His eyes flickered but his face stayed cold.
“Leave it on the table.”
Rishu placed the file and nearly ran out, terrified.
Devveer waited till the door clicked shut.
Only then did he touch the file — slowly, almost reverently — as if it were something dangerous, something delicate.
He opened it.
Her picture was clipped on the top.
A simple passport-style photo.
Dimpal smiling softly
with a calmness that felt like sunlight.
He traced his thumb near the photo without touching it.
“Why do you smile like that?” he murmured under his breath.
He flipped through her details:
Age: 22 years
Education: MSc Forensic Science (Semester 2)
Skills: Lab work, analysis, photography, evidence handling
Strengths: Hardworking, curious, polite
He paused at “polite.”
Of course she was.
He had seen her apologize to a wall yesterday.
THE FIRST TRICK
Devveer didn’t believe in fate.
So he decided to create it.
He called Rishu again.
“Bring the intern list.”
Rishu gulped.
“Yes, sir.”
Devveer spoke flatly:
“Assign her to my department.”
Rishu’s jaw dropped.
“S-sir? The CEO’s department? But interns usually—”
“Did I ask for your opinion?”
“N-No sir!”
Devveer leaned back, expression unreadable.
“She will work directly under me.”
Rishu turned pale.
Nobody worked directly under Devveer.
Nobody survived that close to him.
But he couldn’t say anything.
He left to change the roster.
HER ARRIVAL - AND HIS HEART
At 10:03 AM, Dimpal walked in.
Peach suit again.
Soft hair tumbling over her shoulders.
Her bag bouncing lightly with her steps.
She stopped at the reception, confused.
“Excuse me, where is the sample lab? I think I’m assigned there?”
The receptionist blinked.
“Oh… uh… actually…”
She swallowed.
“You’ve been reassigned.”
“Reassigned? To where?”
The receptionist pointed upstairs with a trembling finger.
Dimpal followed her gaze.
To the top floor.
The floor nobody went to.
“The CEO’s department.”
Dimpal froze.
“C-CEO? Me?”
The receptionist nodded nervously.
And for the first time in her life…
Dimpal felt faint.
FIRST MEETING AT HIS OFFICE
She stood at Devveer’s door, hands shaking.
She knocked softly.
The door opened automatically — and she nearly squealed.
Devveer looked up.
Sharp black shirt. Rolled-up sleeves.
Eyes dark, intense, unreadable.
He looked like a storm that could swallow her whole.
She bowed awkwardly.
“S-sir… I’m the intern… m-my name is—”
“Dimpal Sharma.”
She blinked.
“Yes… how did you—”
“I remember faces.”
Not true.
He had never remembered anyone’s face.
Only hers.
Her small eyes widened slightly.
“Oh. That’s… nice.”
He almost smiled.
Almost.
“Sit.”
She sat like she was facing a firing squad.
HIS FIRST MANIPULATION (SOFT AND SWEET)
Devveer spoke slowly:
“You are good with photography, evidence collection, and analytical deductions.”
“H-How do you know?” she whispered.
“I read your file.”
He didn’t mention he read it three times.
“I want you on a personal project. You will assist me.”
Her mouth fell open.
“Me? But sir, I’m just an intern! I’m not that smart, maybe you should choose someone—”
He leaned forward slightly.
“You are capable.”
Her breath hitched.
He didn’t blink.
He didn’t look away.
She felt strangely warm under his gaze.
“You will assist me,” he repeated gently.
Not a command.
A decision.
She nodded weakly.
“O-Okay…”
THEIR FIRST AWKWARD JOURNEY TOGETHER
Devveer closed the file.
“Follow me.”
She almost tripped while standing.
He pretended not to see it but his lips twitched a millimeter.
They walked down the corridor.
Employees froze like statues.
Nobody dared breathe near Devveer.
But Dimpal?
She walked beside him, completely unaware of the horror on everyone’s faces.
She nudged him lightly by accident.
“Oops, sorry sir!”
His entire body reacted.
Electric warmth shot through him.
But he pretended to be cold.
“It’s fine.”
Her eyes widened.
“You say that a lot.”
He almost choked.
He NEVER said that a lot.
He only said that around her.
THE ROOM HE NEVER LETS ANYONE ENTER
He led her to a room at the end of a private hallway.
A biometric scanner beeped.
The door opened.
The room was dim, with screens showing encrypted data, maps, confidential cases.
“Is this… your investigation lab?” she whispered.
“No,” he said softly.
Her brows furrowed.
“What is this then?”
He looked at her for a long second.
“This is the only room I trust.”
Her breath caught.
He let her enter first.
Nobody had entered this room in years.
His parents hadn’t.
His best officers hadn’t.
But she did — within 48 hours of meeting him.
He knew what it meant.
He wasn’t ready to admit it.
A CUTE, EMBARRASSING MOMENT
While observing a case file on the desk, Dimpal leaned too far—
—and her hair tie slipped.
Her long hair fell open
in a soft wave around her shoulders.
Devveer froze.
Her hair…
Her scent…
He swallowed hard, forcing his expression to remain cold.
“Sorry sir,” she mumbled, tying it quickly.
But the knot tangled.
She struggled.
After 30 seconds, she sighed dramatically.
“Why is my hair always like a monkey’s tail…?”
Devveer’s lips nearly curved.
She looked at him helplessly.
“Um… sir… can you hold the file while I fix my hair?”
He took the file silently.
But his eyes kept drifting to her fingers brushing through her long hair.
She looked like moonlight personified.
He clenched the file harder to steady himself.
THE FIRST TRICK HE DOES FOR HER
After the project briefing, she nervously asked,
“Sir… where do interns have lunch?”
“In the cafeteria,” he said.
She nodded with a small smile.
“Okay! I’ll go—”
“No,” he said calmly.
She turned.
“No?”
“You will not eat alone.”
Her heart fluttered.
Her cheeks warmed.
“W-with whom then?”
He paused.
“With me.”
Her eyes grew huge.
“W-What?”
“You work with me. You will eat with me. It’s… efficient.”
It wasn’t.
He just wanted to make sure she ate properly.
THE END OF THE BEGINNING
That day,
Dimpal went home thinking:
He’s scary but… kind? Maybe? I don’t know…
Devveer went home thinking:
I need to know everything about her.
I need to make sure she stays close.
I need to keep her safe.
I need her.
He loosened his tie and whispered softly to himself:
“She has no idea what she’s doing to me.”........
