Queen of the Night

Queen of the Night

THE FIRST EXPEDITION

...My name is Misone Itoy. The writings below entail my diary....

Today, I made up my mind, together with two other close companions to undertake one of our many missions designed to safeguard our nation.

Our adventure starts just outside my town. My town is a small majestic town called, "The City of Vance". Of recent, a lot of killings have been happening in my town. Small, and great, young and old, were mysteriously killed and this all leaves us with no hint of the intentions of the killer. One thing stands out the most, there is an unknown intruder or intruders, who must be discovered and stopped, before the city is taken by the unknown killers. And this is why we instantly plunged into this mysterious journey despite the fact that many thought of our adventure as ill- prepared, and worth postponing. However, it's so necessary as the killers won't wait for the dust to settle before they make another kill. We tried hiring several riders, all in vain. We finally got one, by chance, who gave in to our fare bribe. We, three tall, large men sat in the small cabin of the tricycle. Sweating and cussing till it was dusk. In a short while, I could hear the large droplets thudding on the roof of our tricycle. There were gusts of wind blowing across and it was really freezing cold. The three of us, all safely locked at the back of the cozy tricycle cabin, were all engaged in our own worlds; each man deep in his own thoughts.

I wondered if any of my companions was afraid about the dangerous mission we were involved in. No man dared to break the silence. All that we could hear was the sound of rain on the ground and nearby bushes. The silence was so heavy that I was too conscious of our surrounding; the rain was so heavy , and thick that we hardly saw our way, except for the ground beneath the tricycle wheels. Our journey was one long one and I often peeped out with the hope of seeing any farm or house, all in vain. While gazing out through the small window, I often saw what looked like people in the bushes, but I let it all out of my mind, for how could life exist in this thick lonely jungle.I could see the forward and backwards swaying of the trees and thickets. The strong gales of wind cast the rain droplets even into the cabin. I could see the rider struggling to maintain his speed; he often shook his head sideways or wiped his face using his hand in an attempt to remove the blinding droplets of rain that usually hung from his face. He struggled breathlessly to push the pedals, although his attempts were almost in vain as the road was muddy and was filled with troughs and tops all over. This always sent us racking from side to side, back and forth. Earlier on in the day we had met this rider and he had almost declined to offer our request, however, after prolonged discussion and an offer of a bigger payment he finally gave in to our pestering and agreed to help us. The rest of the riders had refused, each not giving us clear reasons. One said that that way was too distant and that he would seriously mind taking up the job no matter the fare paid. Of our present rider, I could tell from his looks and indecision that he had a bad feeling about the place, something like some sort of experience. Luckily enough I had been furnished with plenty of money so there was still plenty to use in case an occasion arose. The lightning struck across the gray and heavily clouded skies, always catching us unawares. I had learned that this village often had heavy rains that usually ended in floods and hailstones; and that would be the last thing I would expect from this long and dreary night - moreover just the start of our journey. I considered whether General Funk's idea of postponing the journey was true, I imagined the consequences of my determination if we got plunged into the deadly jungle, with no nearby aid. It was said that this place has poisonous insects of all kinds, worse still, it was home to the feared anacondas, also, lions, tigers and bears the grizzly bears.

^^^There were also the evil gorillas. I had known beforehand how powerful these were. I personally witnessed a gigantic gorilla rip someone apart, it was really a horrifying sight to withess. be^^^

^^^Asondered over all these, I had the sound of hailstones hitting the roof of the tricycle cabin that we were in - the final thing I never would have wanted. The cabin roof sounded as if it would get cracked the next minute. In no time the rider man announced that we had to stop until the rain ceased. We had often heard of stories of people killed by the hailstones, especially in the places with no trees save for the bushes and thickets. This happened to armed soldiers too, just last year. The rider then joined us at the back of the cabin after parking at the side of the road. He looked a middle-aged man probably in his early 50s. He had a square and stern-looking face that portrayed a lot of experience of such rough conditions of the wild, I must say he looked like an experienced soldier, with dark tinted hair and gray eyes. the most conspicuous feature we had about him was the big broad chest and bulging arms that made him look like a trained man. However I supposed that this frame of his was due to his work on the bike. For example we had just witnessed him peddle the three of us, all tall and heavy men, let alone the heavy stuff, up a hill.^^^
