Chapter 1: I hate your new Husband

Li Shinyi was a man who lived a chaotic life. From childhood to adulthood- all he knew was to fight and act indecisive.

So it wouldn’t be surprising if he fell in love with a girl, got her pregnant, and the marriage eventually fell into pieces after five years of marriage.

Eventually, his ex-wife found someone- and married that man so fast it left many scoffing at Li Shinyi.

How horrible must he be to be replaced that fast? Well as they say, the child of monsters is also a monster- his parents were horrible pieces of trash, so their child should also be a piece of trash.

Everyone sympathized with his wife and blamed him for everything. However, Li Shinyi truly loved her- he was not the best person for her…that is all.

So he doesn't care what others say. It was his fault anyway.

Li Shinyi rang the doorbell of the big family size house in an elite subdivision. The gate opened, and he saw his ex-wife who beamed a smile at him.

“You are here! Shuyi was just asking where you are- she hasn’t blown her cake candles yet because she wanted to blow it with you.” Contrary to expectations, he and Menqing remained friendly with each other. She always made sure he was in his daughter’s life- and always invited him over to Shuyi's birthday.

“Is that a gift for her? She would be so happy to receive it.”

“Yes. Is she alright these days?”

“Yes. She’s enjoying her first week in kindergarten. Lev brought her to school today and said that she already has her group of friends.” At the mention of that damned name, Li Shinyi’s smiling mouth twitched-

Lev- the new husband of his wife was a man who possessed all qualities Li Shinyi hates. Arrogant, insufferably high profile in whatever he does, has too much money he could do whatever he wanted, and came from a noble family so he looked down on Li Shinyi’s humble origins. That man also had people look into his life, and uses that to make backhanded comments about him whenever he comes by.

Li Shinyi swore that if he was given the chance- he would beat up that ‘noble’ face! Let him taste the ground under his feet- maybe then his arrogance would go away.

The two of them reached the dining area and when the little girl saw her father, she hopped down her seat and ran to hug the man. Li Shinyi loved his daughter very much.

To him, his daughter was the best thing that happened in his life. This was the only right thing he has ever done.

“Daddy!”

“Shuyi, Dad missed you~” He rubbed his face against his daughter’s chubby face, happy to see her after a month of moving back and forth because of work.

“Daddy, why did you just come now? I missed you a lot.” Li Shinyi lifted his daughter- the joy of his life- and explained that his work was really hectic nowadays- earning a small ‘snicker’ from the man sitting in front of the table.

Immediately, he knew this night was bound to become unbearable.

“Here is your gift.”

“Wow! Thank you, daddy!” He placed her down and watched her open the package- revealing an expensive ball-jointed dolly.

“Wow! so pretty!” the child gasped and thanked her father- showing it off to her mother.

Menqing admired it with her daughter- who insisted on sitting with it.

“But it will get dirty. Why don’t we put it in your room?” the child happily nodded, and the two went up the stairs- leaving the two men behind in silence.

“I thought you’d be late this year too- the sun must be rising on the wrong side.” The man lifted his glass of wine and took a sip. Li Shinyi habitually pulled a chair in front of the man and sneered-

“I know you want to rile me up so I would leave early- you fuck.”

“As always, your mouth is vile.”

“Who made a bad comment first? Asshole, don’t provoke me on such an important day.” Li Shinyi warned with hostility. The man just looked at him with indifference- as if looking at a joke.

“Well, I won’t bother with such a boring Verzögern like you. But it really makes the food unpalatable with you here.” Li Shinyi’s veins popped- there he goes again, using foreign words to call him names!

“ shǎ bī!” So as always, he answers him with a curse word of his own. Lev, who has limited Chinese vocabulary, glared at him- he doesn’t understand that word but he knew that if it came from the mouth of this Li Shinyi- it must be an insult.

The two men glared at each other- wanting to fight but could not because this was not the right occasion. So when the mother and daughter duo came back moments later, they found the two men giving each other nasty looks.

Well, it was just mainly Menqing who could read their current mood so well. Shuyi was too young to understand adults- she thought they were bored because they had to wait for her and her mommy.

So the little girl immediately told her mommy that she was ready to blow the candles on her cake with her daddy.

“Papa Lev, too! Come blow a candle with me and Daddy!” The two men froze and gave each other a nasty look.

“Sweetie…” Menqing trailed off. Shuyi gave the two men her infamous puppy eyes- and they could only agree. So Menqing, with a camera on her hand, took the picture of her daughter and the two men on either side of her- blowing the candle.

She looked at it with humour after- and vowed to make a copy to put on an album.

Haha, as usual- they can’t say no to Shuyi at all.

“Mommy! Let’s cut the cake now!”

Cutting cake was Shuyi’s favorite part of her birthday. Like Li Shinyi, his daughter was born with a sweet-tooth and oftentimes, she had to see the dentist twice a month to make sure her teeth remained healthy.

Lin Shiyi always helps his daughter cut the cake- the only occasion he and Lev seem to tacitly stop fighting.

Dinner went well and the child finally fell asleep due to exhaustion. Her birthday wasn’t grand- but that’s the way she likes it. When they asked her if she wanted to throw a big birthday party, she shook her head and said it was enough to have her mom and her two dads.

Such a sensible and sweet child- even Lev doted on her at first sight.

“Thank you for coming early, Shinyi.” Menqing walked him to the gate, the nearby outdoor lights illuminated them.

Li Shinyi smiled, with a deep sigh in his heart- Menqing, as usual- is so beautiful. Her black hair was carefully tied into a loose ponytail and since she married a rich man- she could finally maintain her beauty.

The fresh lily he met back then, seems to have returned to its former glow. The glow that he had extinguished.

Suddenly Menqing couched harshly- catching Li Shinyi off-guard. He supported her body and worriedly asked if she was alright.

“Oh, it’s just the night wind. You should also hurry home- it seems like it’s going to rain. Ah, how about having the family driver drive you back?”

“No need. It’s still early- you should go in and get warm.” the woman nodded, watching him leave the gates with a smile on her face.

He should have known by then- that it was not just a simple cough.

He's a doctor- for god's sake.

Li Shiyi hailed a taxi and hurriedly got in. As expected- Menqing was right, it really did rain. He cursed under his breath and told the uncle driver to drop him off at a nearby convenience store.

The rain was heavy, and Li Shinyi sat inside the twenty-four seven open convenience store and ate a pack of marshmallows and hot cocoa while he gazed outside- beyond the store’s glass walls.

His house was in a very deep part of this place- the taxi could not enter and so he had to walk towards his house a few blocks from here.

He was not in the mood to get soaked and get sick- so he opted to sit here for a while. He could just buy an umbrella- but the rain would still soak him.

As much as he liked rainy nights- what he hated the most was getting rained on.

“Hm?” his hands felt nothing inside the bag- he had consumed all of it huh? The rain was not letting up soon- so he simply got more marshmallows and another cup of hot cocoa- surfing the internet for anything interesting.

Work gave him a week off- after that he had to go overseas again.

The nature of his work- Li Shinyi could not easily tell people. To them, he was a useless scum who job hops rather than become a stable working man in the profession he had chosen.

He is indeed working as a doctor- but in special cases. It’s top secret- and maintaining his anonymity was a must.

After all, he was a special operative personnel and the cases they deal with… talk about human life, he doesn’t know how many he had saved or how many he had killed.

He doesn’t want to drag his family into the mess his parents had dragged him into.

The hot cocoa melted the marshmallows dumped into it- the scene reflecting into his eyes.

Just like this marshmallow- his life would cease to exist with one mistake.

But he must endure- a few more years and he could retire- he can have a semblance of a normal life, maybe his identity as Li Shinyi would die- maybe not.

He was worried before- but now he was not that worried. Even if he hates that shit called Lev, he becomes useful at times like this.

If in the future, he would not be able to come back- at least Menqing and Shuyi would have a good life. Sure, things may change, but Menqing is an intelligent woman- as long as she was standing she would not be bullied.

That goes the same for their daughter.

But that bitch Lev doesn’t seem like someone who would mistreat his wife and step-daughter, he looked like a guy who would cleanly cut off ties with someone if he ran out of love.

Li Shinyi indifferently scoffed at the face in his mind- Yeah, it’s a rich man- if he compensated Menqing if they ever divorced he wouldn’t become bankrupt at all.

The rain pitter patters- and Li Shinyi massaged his temples in frustration.

He really hates that person.

Giving him a good guy card would never happen! Hump!
