Chapter 4 An eye for an eye.On the hospital bed, Cecilia was surrounded by a crowd of medical staff, acting like a princess, playfully pouting at River. Her innocent, delicate face was so deceptive. Zinnia smirked sarcastically. Who would have thought that behind Cecilia's "kind" face was someone who drained her blood and fed her organs to the dogs? How laughable that she once tried to save such a villain!
Cecilia felt Zinnia's gaze and a flash of malice crossed her eyes before she put on her "kind" fake smile. "Zinnia, you'rehere."
River glanced at Zinnia with his narrow eyes, which immediately turned cold. "Why are you so late?"
Too early to attend your funeral, perhaps? Zinnia didn't respond, her eyes lingering meaningfully on Cecilia's face. "You look well."
Meeting her gaze, Cecilia's face froze for a moment. This fool seemed different today. No, it couldn't be; she was too stupid! She couldn't wait to see the fool's blood being drawn!
The next second, Cecilia clutched herforehead, pretending to be weak, and leaned onto River's shoulder. "Riv, my head hurts!"
"I'm here, you'll be fine." In front of Zinnia, River gently held Cecilia, comforting her softly, then turned and coldly ordered, "Dr. Du, draw the blood!"
Seven or eight medical staff subtly surrounded Zinnia. Dr. Du looked at her expressionlessly. "Ma'am, please cooperate."
"Don't you dare!" Zinnia's voice was low but carried an undeniable authority, causing the staff to pause."Hold her down!" River commanded coldly, not even sparing Zinnia a glance.
Zinnia looked at Dr. Du with a blank expression. "Are you sure she received my blood yesterday?"
Eager to restrain her, Dr. Du quickly replied, "Of course."
Zinnia laughed coldly, "Really? If she received my blood, why isn't she dead yet?!"
"Zinnia!" River thought she was cursing Cecilia, his eyes dark and threatening, as if he wanted to crush her.Ignoring his glare, Zinnia pulled out two lab reports and threw them at his face. "I'm type A blood, and she's Rh-negative. Forcing a blood transfusion between different blood types would be fatal! River, are you that ignorant? Don't you even know this basic fact?!"
Shaw caught the lab report, his eyes scanning the paper. The report was from this morning, from the hospital he fully funded, so it couldn't be fake. But still...
He looked up, his deep gaze scrutinizing Cecilia. Her expression stiffened, and she hurried to explain."It was... it was Dr. Du who told me that Zinnia's blood could save me."
Dr. Du was taken aback, meeting Cecilia's warning glance, and quickly lowered his head, mumbling, "I might have been careless, misread the report..."
Zinnia smirked inwardly. So, Cecilia had already bribed the doctor, passing the blame so smoothly! Did she think it would end here?
"Oh no!" Zinnia's expression turned serious, her brow furrowed as she spoke sternly. "So you already transfused my blood yesterday?! Therejection could make you collapse!"
Cecilia was startled but quickly caught on. Yes, collapse!
"Riv, my head feels so dizzy..." The next moment, Cecilia gracefully fell into River's arms, clutching her forehead.
"Celia!!" River immediately caught her, his expression filled with concern. "Lay her down quickly!"
Zinnia, quick on her feet, rushed forward before Dr. Du could, pulling out a silver needle. But before she could act, River swatted her hand away, leaving a red mark on her hand."What do you think you're doing?!"
River glared at her, protectively holding Cecilia, his eyes icy. "Of course, I'm saving her! Unless..."
Zinnia retorted coolly, "You want this quack who can't even tell blood types apart to treat her? I'm the daughter of the legendary healer Seraphina Gu!"
The mention of Seraphina Gu's name finally made River hesitate, reluctantly releasing his grip but still warning her coldly, "Zinnia, no tricks!"
Of course, she planned to pull a trick! Cecilia, let's see how you like gettingyour blood drawn!
Zinnia pulled out the longest, thickest silver needle from her bag, unceremoniously pinning Cecilia's hand and swiftly pricking all five fingers, causing blood to gush out!
"What are you doing?!" River moved to stop her, but Zinnia shot him a cold glance, "Haven't you heard of the traditional bloodletting therapy? Don't delay me from saving her!"
As she spoke, Zinnia applied more force, moving to Cecilia's other hand.
Blood was gushing out, and Zinniaturned to the nurses. "What are you standing there for? Help me!" Her tone was commanding, and the nurses quickly grabbed the blood-drawing needles and tubes.
In no time, Cecilia's ten fingers were swiftly bled. Zinnia watched Cecilia, who was pretending to faint, with a cold expression. In her past life, Cecilia had forced her to donate blood and even a kidney, causing excruciating pain every time. She had risked her life to save Cecilia, only to find out it was all part of Cecilia's deadly game. Her kindness and life were trampled upon.
The pain was unbearable, and Zinniathought, "Cecilia, today I'm giving it all back to you!"
"Ahhh!!!" Cecilia's face turned pale as she broke out in a cold sweat. Unable to bear it any longer, she opened her eyes with a twisted expression and let out a scream that sent the nurses retreating in fear. The once-admiredgoddess looked terrifying.
Cecilia, filled with terror, broke free from Zinnia and clung to River, crying pitifully. "Riv, save me! She's trying to kill me!" Being a rare blood type, she knew losing too much blood could be fatal. Zinnia was out to murder her!
"What nonsense are you talking about? I'm saving you!" Zinnia calmly countered, meeting River's skeptical gaze with an air of innocence. "The bloodletting has revived her. If you want her to fully recover, we need to remove the excess blood quickly!"
River scrutinized Zinnia, not missing asingle detail on her face. Zinnia stood tall, meeting his gaze without a hint of guilt. After a moment, River gently pulled Cecilia from his embrace. "Celia, just hang in there..."
"No!!!" Cecilia refused vehemently. She only wanted to torment Zinnia, not risk her own life.
"Stop wasting time!" Zinnia threatened to draw more blood from Cecilia's wrist. Terrified, Cecilia burrowed into River's arms, shouting, "Don't take my blood! I never received hers!"
Her words left the room in a stunned silence. Zinnia smirked, the truthfinally revealed. "So you knew you couldn't take my blood, and you did it on purpose?"
The nurses, unaware of the full story, looked on in shock, like spectators at a drama.
"Isn't this basically murder?! So, this is what a so-called goddess is like—such a vicious person!"
"River, is this the 'pure and kind' Cecilia you were talking about?" Zinnia calmly put away the silver needle, casting a mocking glance at him.
